Phillip's Furniture Case
Phillips Furniture

Introduction

The following information outlines the changes that should be incorporated within Phillips Furniture to make their company better to do business with.
Types of Changes within the Company Human Resources would need to address the organizational culture and develop a plan to enhance their values and beliefs. Currently they do not have any set guidelines to inform employees on what the proper behavior is or their expectation within the company. Set guidelines would need to be formatted and communicated to all managers first. This way they can review and provide any additional input or ask questions as needed. By gaining the managers buy-in first they will be able to communicate the changes to their employees more effectively. Once the managers sign off the HR Manager should communicate the changes in writing to all employees. The guidelines that should be outlined would be values, behaviors, quality, productivity, attendance and tardiness. By incorporating guidelines into the company the managers will see an initial drop in engagement and morale, however once the employees see the results both should begin to improve.
Values and Behaviors

Values would be specific and include trust, respect, honesty, integrity, accountability and customer focused. Each employee would be asked to live the company values and their performance would be evaluated based on this criteria. Behaviors would include substance abuse, ethics, discrimination and harassment.

Quality and Productivity Performance Quality and productivity would be implemented with a set minimum standard that must be met monthly. Those would could not meet and maintain based on a 3 month average would be placed on a formal coaching plan. Quality minimum standard would be >=93% and productivity minimum standard would be >=80%
Attendance and Tardiness Attendance and tardiness should also be a set minimum standard. No more than 6 unexcused

There are several different things that Mr. Phillips should focus on. The first thing that needs to be done is a mission statement. This is important because the business needs to have a purpose and objective. Mr. Phillips and all the other managers should sit down and discuss this matter and lay out a goal for where the company stands today and where they want to be in the future. By knowing how the company should grow the employees know what to strive for.…

The Premier Furniture Company of Newfield, North Carolina, centers on manufacturing high-quality home furniture for distribution. By 1975, Premier found that product quality and service no longer assured success in the markets they were in; therefore, credit terms and financing of dealers became a critical marketing tool. Regrettably, Premier’s weighty financing of dealers corresponded with a national credit squeeze and higher interest rates on borrowed money. In 1984, Richard Zimmerman, the credit analyst for the Premier Furniture Company, took over the task of assessing the financial health of Premier’s customers. Two of their accounts, Designers Inc. of Pittsburgh, PA, and Walcott Department Stores of Hartford,…
