In your opinion, should high school be extended to five years?
High School should be extended to five years. Why? According to the Monroe Survey in 1925, basic education is not enough preparation for life and students are not well-prepare for further studies, such as commerce industry. It was a long time ago since the extension of the basic education is suggested because, as what the study said, basic education will never be enough to face the future that awaits the students who will undergo basic education. Aside from that, we were one of the few countries that are using basic education since the implementation of the K-12 program. It does not mean that we are trying to be like the other countries, such as the United States and United Kingdom, which have high standards for education. It is just the fast and vast growth of technology and the pacing of the progress that people are encountering today.
What are the advantages of the extension of high school to five years? First, knowledge. Abundance of knowledge is the first advantage of having longer years in high school. One will get to know new things that is useful for his future college encounters. He or she will get to explore his or her future plans, such as courses to take in college, in longer high school years. Or if not planning to go to college, one can already apply for work for his daily living. Second, he or she

    B. White’s essay he describes a dual existence he has with his son when spending time at this lake. In some ways White is facing an identity crisis when he has a hard time distinguishing between himself and his son. The essay moves in a non- chronological order where White weaves in and out through the past and present. While at the lake, in its essence remains unchanged, White himself is different, and so he finally accepts the fundamental irony of life. The natural cycle of birth, childhood, maturity, and death are inevitable, he too realizes he is facing the natural course that leads to the chill of…

Educationally Speaking, children had better opportunities with school since the government funded in creating more schools due to high demand. There became a high demand for schools, first starting with elementary, and as the children aged high schools and universities were built up. (Alenar, 2008). An average student only spent six years attending school due to farming duties and only one in ten students graduated from High School. (Alenar, 2008). One of the major benefits of year-round school is that it aids students in a way that they can increase their overall grade. Students are less likely to forget what they have previously learned in school due to the lack of large breaks in the school year. Most importantly, there is more time. More time for school means more time can be devoted to each unit or section of material a teacher is covering. Less pressure to learn information in two weeks or even a month can help students apply their new knowledge to the long-term memory and gives more time for student to comprehend ideas in a more complex manor.…

Children who live in an area with year long school and those who cannot afford private school shouldn’t have to be forced to go to a school that does not benefit them. Paying to go to school is an option. People pay for those schools because it benefits them. The traditional high school calendar has been used for many years by many school because it works. Public school should not force something upon its citizens that does not benefit them. So maybe instead of opting for a longer school year educators should improve the quality of time put into the…

I think a longer school year is better for many reasons. During the long summer vacation, many kids waste time watching TV. They forget what they learned in school. I am always ready for the new school year because I only have one month off. It takes time to learn everything you need to know in order to go to college. In my opinion, if more schools replace vacation time with learning time, it will make a big difference for their students. (qtd. in Should)…

Students take a lot out of their high school experiences, ranging from the chemistry experiments to after school activities such as high school rodeo or Friday night football games. According to Jayson “You have to look at the whole four-year experience, of the National Association of Secondary School Principals” Young men and women that choose to load themselves down assignment wise for a two year graduation tend to miss out on other valuable learning experiences. For example, if you’re constantly doing work, work, work, you miss out on things like communicating well with peers, the teamwork learned that goes with sports or any after school program. There is so much more to learn throughout high school that can be learned by opting out with a quick two year degree.…

Without a doubt, having an extended year-round school solves the problems of traditional schooling. Graduating high school in three years instead of two has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. Some of the pros are that a student is able to enroll in their local community college early and get all of their general education courses out of the way. They could work and save up money to travel before committing to a college. If someone has their 5 year plan all worked out and know exactly where they want to go what they are going to major in and what they want to do then they could go ahead and leap into that if they wanted to. If someone truly didn’t know what they wanted to do and decided to graduate early that’s a year of working, saving up money, and observing every possible career that interests them and not be behind. These are all…

    Education Not a Luxury

Trachtenberg shows in his article “Education is Not a Luxury,” that Americans are still using an education system that posses the strategies from an ancient world. He also states that education is no longer a luxury, and makes emphasis in the idea that by lengthening the school year to 11 months and longer days, the education system would be better than how it is now; moreover, students would be more prepared for their future productive life. I agree with Trachtenberg’s idea of making a better use of the whole school year but I don’t think that making them longer is the right answer. Instead, a better use of the school hours is what I think is more important to the students, to teach them all the theory, but most importantly to practice what they learn in the classroom.…
