The economy thrived on the selling of tobacco and it soon became the Golden Weed of Virginia. Tobacco not only became the staple product of Virginia, but also a very important import in many other societies. Populations were addicted to the product and revered it. One early tobacco advertisement bore the popular slogan, “Life is a smoke-- If this be true, tobacco will thy life renew; then fear nor death, nor killing Care, whilst we have best Virginia here (Doc. B).” It is interesting to see that a product, which is so criticized and harassed today, was the one thing that saved the Virginia colony from extinction. Consequently, as the economy changed drastically, so did the social aspects of the…

Much of the country's industry is concentrated around Monrovia, where civil war disruption was highest, and is directed toward mineral, rubber, and palm oil processing. The lack of skilled and technical labor has slowed the growth of the manufacturing sector.…

This plant once played a large role in the culture of Native Americans; it existed in ceremonies, healing practices, and religious rituals. After America was discovered by Europe, it made it’s way over to Europe and eventually made its way around the entire. As of this day and age, tobacco is seen on nearly every street corner being smoked by someone who looks like they’ve had their fare share of living.…

The good thing about this is that the majority of people in the 1700's used tobacco. Of course the Puritans also had tobacco, but it was harder to grow up north because of the rocky terrain, and the difference in temperature. The Virginians found that selling tobacco was very profitable, and growing it was relatively simple. It was a fairly easy way to make money, and expended little effort.…
