A New Civilization Rises Before the country of Peru was invaded by Spanish conquistadors and became independent, there stood the Indian tribe of the Incas. Even though most of the Inca population was wiped out, the lifestyle and culture survived the many long years and still prospers in the modern world. Though the industry and lifestyle of the people in Peru have drastically changed from what the Inca initially had, much of the culture today is based on the Inca’s beliefs. Before the country of Peru was founded, the Indian tribe called the Incas inhabited the area from about 1430-1530. As Spanish conquistadors explored the South America, they encountered the Incas. Although both sides were unfamiliar and astonished of their differences, the Conquistadors and Incas shared similar intentions of wiping out the other side. Because of their superior weaponry, the use of horses, and the aid of the surrounding Indian tribes, the Spanish conquistadors defeated the Incas. After the destruction of the Incan tribe, civilians from Spain started to migrate to the destroyed Incan civilization and started to colonize. As of 1821, the people living in the area claimed independence from Spain and declared themselves as the country named Peru. Although most of the Incan tribe was destroyed by Spanish conquistadors, the country of Peru still retains some aspects of Incan culture. Most of the music in Peru was inspired or created by the Incas. Yaravi is the oldest type of music in Peru and is created from Incan Poetry. Most of the people living in cities or towns are Roman Catholic. Although Roman Catholic remains as the most common religion practiced, people living in the Andes Mountains still worship the Sun God. Even though most of the Incan tribe was wiped out, there are people today who have ancestors from the Incan tribe when the Spanish arrived. Aside from Peru’s past history, they remain in an active economy. Agriculture is one of the main factors in their economy.
