Persuasive Speech Outline
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to use the seat belt in car.
Central Idea: There are three reasons why we should use the seat belt in car which are, preventing death in about half of car accidents, following the law itself and protecting our passengers.
Introduction
I. A seat belt, sometimes called a safety belt II. Seat belts were invented by George Cayley in the early 19th century. III. The seat belts terminology can be found in four patterns. A. 2-Point Seat Belt: A restraint system with two attachment points which called a lap belt B. 3-Point Seat Belt: A seat belt with both a lap and a shoulder portion, having three attachment points (one shoulder, two hips). C. Lap Belt: A seat belt anchored at two points, for use across the occupant 's thighs or hips. D. Lap/Shoulder Belt: A seat belt that is anchored at three points and restrains the occupant at the hips. IV. Today, I will tell all of you, why we should wear the seat belt in car based on three reasons.
(Transition: Let’s start by looking at the first reason.)
Body I. Using seat belt in car can help us to prevent death in about half of car accidents. A. 40,000 people die each year in car accidents, the leading cause of death for people under the age of 35. Safety belts can prevent death in about half of these accidents. B. A safety belt helps you by holding you in place. 1. Many injuries occur when a person inside the car collides with the steering wheel, dashboard, windshield, the roof or other passengers.
C. Keep you inside the car. 1. You are 25 times more likely to killed or injured if you are thrown from the car.
(Transition: Let’s take a look on what is the second reason why we should wear seat belt.) II. Observational studies have shown that using seat belt greatly helps on reducing the death.
