Persuasive Speech For School Shootings
Hi everyone. Good afternoon. I’m Jennifer Edwards. It’s good to see all of you. I’m glad you could all make it to this beautiful campus here in Dallas. I want to thank Southern Methodist University for hosting us today. I have a passion for education so being able to speak to you from an institution of higher learning makes me feel right at home.
I am running for Dallas County Judge, but before I start telling you why I am running for Judge, I would like to take a moment to introduce myself to those of you that I haven’t yet met and to those of you that do not know me. I was born Jennifer Lopez just a few miles over in Garland, Texas. I was raised on Carnation Court for 18 years by my wonderful mama. My five siblings and I attended public schools

I will be looking for ways to teach our citizens that it is okay to own guns, as long as you follow the rules. You have to buy your guns from reputable salesmen, you have to follow gun-safety protocols, you have to REG-IS-TER your guns. As Judge, I hope to develop and implement a diversion program for citizens cited with gun-related offenses. This program would offer citizens a chance to dismiss their citations in exchange for attending gun training and education courses. Guns aren’t the problem, people. A general lack of understanding and a current political atmosphere that is too hard on offenders without offering any solutions is the …show more content…
I’m sure everyone here knows or has heard of someone that is dealing with an opioid problem. The misuse and abuse of opioids in this country has become rampant. Oxy, Vicodin, codeine, heroin – every time I read the news or listen to a news report there is always some mention of opioids. And while Dallas County does not see this problem as much as other parts of Texas and the rest of the States do, it is still a problem. We need to make sure that when those struggling with opioid abuse problems come through our courts that they are led to the best resources and treatments programs available. We can’t just continue to punish those facing a crisis with fines and jail time and expect their problems to go away. On the other hand, we need to be harsher with those responsible for selling and dealing. As a public defender I have represented both users and dealers and I can say from experience that the largest issue at hand is the inconsistency with which cases are treated. I will strive

Methadone is considered to be the most effective treatment available to those addicted to opiates (Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT): A Review of Historical and Clinical Issues). It is estimated that upwards of 170,000 individuals in the United States currently are enrolled in a methadone maintenance program. It has been proven that illicit drug use has decline by over 60% for those that have been enrolled in a methadone maintenance program for a year. For those that remain committed to the program for at least two years, the use of illicit opiates declines by nearly 85% (Accreditation Of Methadone Maintenance Treatment: Assuring Quality of Care.) Furthermore, crimes committed by these individuals are also significantly…

At those times the babies were taken to a friends home to be cared for.…

We the kids around the world are not thrilled with the way our society behaves. We hate to turn on the news and see the way our youth act towards each other like who really wants to live in a world where this goes on every single day. The biggest problem that we have in society is school shootings. We bully each other until it gets to the point where we can't take the bullying no more and start handling the situation ourselves and we will never know when it's going to happen until it happens. And people wonder why does this happen to our youth well it's because no one like to stick up for the person that's getting bullied they just let it happen like what I heard today at lunch where a student was getting bullied by everyone in his second period…

Many believe that Naloxone is ‘the first step toward recovery” (Join Together Staff), but how can addiction be prevented? Out of the 1.9 million addicts in the U.S, only 517,000 were heroin addicts (“Opioid Abuse” 10). Nearly all heroin addicts come from painkillers after a while which increases crime rates and overdose related deaths. All of these overdoses could have been stopped if the root of the problem is pulled, which goes back to painkiller abuse. At this time, the government is tightening its hold on painkillers by enacting new laws and legislation that will stop illegal distribution, improve education on addiction, and safely helping addicts. Many argue that this would be too much money for the government to spend on the “low-lives” of society and that this money should go somewhere more productive. This government action is the best way to go because addicts can man up and go for help than continue to kill themselves. All of this expense will pay off in the end when it save the life of a neighbor, friend, coworker, or even a family…

What is the number one reason that parents worry about their children in schools? The reason is the increased numbers of school shootings across the United States. The school shootings happen almost twice a week during last year which often end with the killer shoot and kill about a dozen of school students before the shooter were killed by the police's lethal force. The result can be damage families, community, and friends. In order to stop the school shootings in the USA, the school system must increase their security, arming the teachers with handguns or a shotgun, and install more cameras.…

Tacoma, the city I grew up in, was a nice and peaceful place until recently, the last couple of months before 2015 ended, was covered in news of mad mass shootings. Young lives were taken away, leaving only wounded hearts, sadness, and the question: What has gone wrong with society? Mass shootings have always been an issue. Studies show that mass shootings and gun ownerships have a direct relationship, that means, the more guns people own, the more likely for us to experience these incidents. Studies also show that the United States had nearly double the number of mass shootings than most of the developed countries combined.…

What has to happen for us to realize we should use the right of our second amendment? Over the past few years we have been faced with many tragic events; these include bombings, attacks, and shootings. I think one of the problems that continue to grow rapidly is school shootings. In 2015 there have been more than 45 school shootings. This has left schools with a tragic event they will always be haunted with. In order to protect the school, teachers should have the right to carry a pistol on campus to make it a safer place for students, faculty, and staff. No matter how prepared you are it can still happen, and being armed could bring down risk of school shootings or protect more people during one.…

With all the shootings and bombings that has happened in the past year. There are a lot of people that thinks that guns would be best if they would be taken away. If the guns would be taken away that would be taking an American right that no one can take away other than yourself. I’m all for safety but I think everyone should keep their guns. “In America, there are approximately 270 million firearms possessed by civilians, and only 897,000 carried by police.”…

14 dead, 21 wounded in San Bernardino. 9 dead in Charleston, S.C. 12 killed, 3 injured in Washington, D.C. 27 killed, one injured at Sandy Hook Elementary. These are just a few examples of tragic mass shootings that have plagued the United States in recent years. But Why? Is it because the gun Laws in this country are too lax? And Guns are just too accessible? I say No, there is greater issue at hand than America’s gun laws thus, any amount gun control legislation will not stop the gun violence and we must vote against it. Too often gun control proposed as thee solution to stop all the tragic mass shootings. I disagree, infringing on the right of Americans to bear arms is not the answer, Keeping guns out of good law abiding people is not going to stop all the violence, I believe that just the opposite is true. Some may object saying, “America has more guns per capita and more gun violence than other nation, so if we decrease the number of arm citizens would also decrease the number of deaths caused by gun violence and make our country safer.” However this objections and others just like it are just not necessarily true.…

The United States has the highest rate of civilian gun ownership in the world. That also comes with having the most mass shootings even rivaling war-torn countries. In 2015 only there has been more than three hundred plus mass shootings. With more shootings happening a lot more frequently, it is apparent that not nearly enough background checks into gun owners are being run. Three-quarters of people either own two or more. But what should be done about those who are attempted buyers that are turned away? Implemented in 1998 and Created under the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System allows licensed gun sellers to check with the Federal Bureau of Intelligence, as required by the law, before a sale is made. While background checks have prevented tens of thousands of unlawful gun sales each year, opponents have said that the government doesn’t prosecute enough of the attempted buyers (‘‘The Case against Gun Background Checks’’, Good). More than 76,000 denials for gun purchases in 2010. 62 people were referred for prosecution and only thirteen of said prosecutions resulted in verdicts or guilty pleas. Some feel like there are already enough gun laws and that there…
