However, this does not hold true anymore; as of 2009, DST “results in an overall increase in residential electricity demand”, with an overall increase of 1% mostly centered around the time surrounding the change between daylight savings and standard time. (Source F). This affirms that DST has caused a dangerous increase in energy consumption, most likely because of the decreased amounts of daylight and therefore the decreased amounts of time people can spend outside of their homes. Since so many individuals are forced to stay indoors, they resort to using different types of electricity for entertainment, thereby increasing energy consumption per person, and also for the world as a whole. The implementation of daylight savings has aided in the fostering of a pressing global issue that could eventually cause massive unforeseen consequences for the entirety of humankind, which is why such a social construct should be expelled from…

According to the EIA, the U.S energy consumption is 100 quadrillion btu/year and is projected to rise by 37 percent within the next 20 years. The U.S is also currently building 151 coal-fired electrical generating plants in order to keep up with the current demand (Holness, 2008). In 2003, 422 quads of energy were used in the world and 92 quads within the U.S alone. According to the report “Cutting Global Energy Demand Growth,” it is predicted that in the year 2020, the world will be at 613 quads. Nonetheless, saving energy not only benefits the planet, but our ‘pockets’ as well. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a simple task like replacing the light bulbs in your home can save up “75% energy of the 10% home energy costs.” Or simply unplugging electronics and appliances when not in use – a task made easier by using multiple-outlet strips, which can turn everything off with the flip of a switch – can save you money. For example, Leaving a computer on all day can cost about “21 cents per day, or about $75 per year” (U.S. Department of energy). Also, according to Goldemberg’s article “Energy for the New Millennium”, 78% of CO2 and 23% of methane is expelled from energy activities which are ultimately major contributors to indoor air pollution, urban air pollution, acidification and global…

Most of the resources we rely on for energy are nonrenewable and will soon be depleted.…
