The death penalty is one of the controversial topics being widely discussed today. Anna Quindlen is one of many people who opposes the death penalty. She is a crime buff who has worked as a reporter for decades in some of the worst areas of New York. In her article, "Death Penalty's False Promise: An Eye for an Eye," she states how the death penalty and her have nothing in common. She claims that the killing of one human being as punishment for the killing of another makes no sense and is inherently immoral. She tries to relate to her readers by using imagery, stating her opinions, and by appealing to the emotions of her readers. Throughout her argument, she also uses many examples to back up her opinions. She gives examples of situations that appeal to her readers sentiments and makes them feel connected to the…

My stance is one of support for capital punishment in the capacity that it is a necessity in respect to the basic premise of the severity of punishment being weighed against the circumstances of the crime.…

The death penalty is a major topic for debate Shannon Rafferty defends in her portfolio published by Penn State entitled “Death Penalty Persuasive Essay.” She believes the penalty should be allowed because it functions as a deterrent, it provides society retribution and it is morally just. Olivia H. disagrees with use of the death penalty in her essay “Capital Punishment Is Dead wrong.” She tells about the risk of punishing the innocent, and how the states are doing irreversible acts of crime. As the authors disagree about whether the death penalty should be allowed, they have some common ground when it comes to admitting the potential for human error and in both disagreeing to the use of barbaric punishments by the government.…

The death penalties are usually carried out for retribution of a heinous murder committed, such as aggravated murder, felony killing or contract killing. Every state handles what method they want to use to put a person to death according to their state laws. The death penalty is given by lethal injection, electrocution; gas chamber firing squad and hanging are some of the ways that certain states may carry out their death penalty procedures. I will present some views and personal opinion dealing with the pros and cons of the death penalty. The death penalty is such a life altering subject that affects all parties’ lives that are involved in the death penalty process. I personally have mixed feeling about the death penalty. I don’t know really if I would be a person that would support the death penalty or not. I do feel that murdering someone is wrong, and since no one really close to me has never been murdered. I don’t know if my feeling would change as being a supporter for the death penalty or not. I can only pray that God will help this county to make the right choices when comes to life or death.…

The death penalty is an extremely controversial topic in America, and people usually shy away from it, but speaking about controversial topics can help us come close to actually find solutions. This exercise was conducted in my survey of law class in which, we had gone over several homicide cases in which the criminal received the death penalty. In the end of the lesson, our teacher asked a simple question “raise your hand if you believe in the death penalty”. I was appalled to see that more than half believed it was worth it. In my mind it was clear that even though that person could have murdered another human being, we have no jurisdiction to kill them, and we would be no better as civilized being if we killed him.…
