Persuasive Paper on Public Smoking

Smoking is the number one preventable cause of death in the United States. The bad habit became common among most people. Public smoking has got to come to an end. Those who choose to smoke publicly do not have to pollute the air of non-smokers. Who likes walking down the street bypassing cigarette smoke? Public smoking needs to be prohibited. There are several reasons public smoking should be banned. Second hand smoke is very dangerous in a huge effort to maintain public health, this habit should be done only on private property. Bystanders exposed to second hand smoke are also at risk of various diseases caused by smoke. Those with asthma are sensitive to smoke as well as other infections. Banning public smoking would also decrease litter. A large percentage of litter on beaches, parks, sidewalks, and lawns are remnants of cigarettes. Places such as clubs, pubs, and work places are in need of banning smoking. Clubs and pubs are meant for entertainment; therefore smoke shouldn’t be spread around. Young people attend these places and shouldn’t have to breathe in harmful air. The habit should be done away from the public due to the listed reasons. Things meant for the community to enjoy should prohibit the habit. Heavy smoking partakes in these businesses harming thousands of people because smoke spreads. Many people don’t attend because of the smoke polluting the air. There are no non-smoking bars but there are non-smoking restaurants. Smoking causes several health problems. Second hand smoke increases your chances of heart disease, lung disease, heart failure and etc. smoking increases your chances of cancer, stroke, yellow teeth and bad breathe. Cigarettes cause you to look older, and your clothes start to stink. Smoke contains four thousand chemicals; fifty of them are known to be cancer-related.
