What are you never not doing? What are you never not working on? What are you never not striving for? Finding motivation for everyone can be difficult, but especially for a student. Being a student can be very hard and finding the motivation to achieve your goals is not as simple as one can thank. What one thinks will motivate them may not, but then what does? Motivation can come in many forms and what may motivate one can come as a surprise. In Drive by Daniel H. Pink he explains the surprising truth of what motivates us and two surprising approaches for motivation for a student can be summed up into two aspects: not visualizing on the success and focusing on the journey, not the outcome.…

Many people argue that internal factors within the Roman Empire caused it to fall were many social, economical, and political problems. One political problem was that the emperors and leaders became corrupt with power and wealth and then most soldiers in the army fended for themselves and didn't work together. The troops soon became pillagers targeting other citizens like them. “The troops became the enemy within; pillage and slaughter of fellow citizens was indiscriminate”(Santosuosso). The whole government and army was filled with leaders who wanted all of the money and power they could get their hands on. “Stopping one threat was not enough, for another would emerge; if that new threat was pushed back, another popped up elsewhere”(Santosuosso). The invasions of the Germanic and the Huns weakened the Roman army since they weren't very strong to begin with. The Germanic Tribes kept on fighting no matter how many times they were undaunted by defeats and hoping to lay hands on the rich spoils of the empire were continuous, but with low resources and a relentless war effort troops lost hope. Once the Roman army could no longer defend its own borders, the Germanic tribes began to invade and Roman provinces fell on after another. After Marius's reform which made it so that anyone with a Roman citizenship could join the army. This made more citizens to join, but they wanted immediate wealth, material goods and improve their condition, they chose to not to be loyal to the republic but to any leader who provided booty for them. Another factor would be the economical problems, the oppressive taxidation system caused farmers to abandon their farms because they couldn't find tenants to cultivate their land and their land was under tax burden, unable to make them a living. “The government tried to meet the demand by tying agricultural workers to their…
Online, physically, or verbally you can be a victim of being bullied. You don’t have to keep things as they are. The question is how to handle the situation (Do you attack the bully and become the bully yourself? Or do you ignore the bully and pretend all is well?) What you do is speak up and ask for help. I would know, because not only was I a victim, I was also a person who stood by and simply watched it happen.…
"It's not just a game," to many athletes this statement rings true. Sports fuel the drive and determination within people, and provide them an essential learning tool from which they can grow. Competitive is defined as, "of or relating to a situation in which people or groups are trying to win a contest or be more successful than other : relating to or involving competition ."(merriam-webster.com) This concept of competitiveness is the foundation of all sports. The competitive spirit and thirst to want to better oneself in order to be at the top is a fueling force that will propel our children far beyond their years on the court. Providing children with equal playing time in youth sports discourages the necessary need for healthy competition and takes away valuable life lessons that will prepare them for the future.…
Grades are often seen to be one of, if not the most effective method of motivating a student to work to their fullest potential. For example, a student who receives an A-grade is going to be encouraged by the grade, as they see it to be an affirmation of their academic efforts. An A-student views their grade with pride, and will work very hard to maintain said grade, once achieved. An example of this is as follows. John recently received an A on his Math test. He then goes home with a sense of pride, bragging about it to all of his friends. John now realizes that he must keep up the good work and continue to work hard for school, in order to continue to feel as good as he does today. Conversely, a failing student will regard his/her grades with shame, and will be more motivated to raise their grade from the gutter as a result. An example of this is as follows. John receives an F for failing to complete an assignment on time. As a reaction to this, John decides that he will turn his life around completely and alter his studying habits so that he turns in his assignments on time in the future. In conclusion, grades are by all means the most effective way of motivating a student to excel.…
In times like today, people have mixed views on smoking and on the effects it has on the human body. Most people who smoke, feel that non-smokers are against them, and believe in the myths that are portrayed by cigarette companies. They do not realize how addictive cigarettes are, and end up stuck with the burden. I feel that her entire article is truly opinionated and biased about non-smokers and she really doesn’t have the hard evidence, just personal experience.…
Voting isn't just for people that are outside of prison. In my opinion I think that everybody has a second chance in life even if they are in prison. They all have rights to vote they are people truing to change their lives. They maybe did something that others dont agree on at all and that they need to be punished and have no rights at all. What if that was you in their you'll say that your doing you're time that you are trying to change and that's what they are doing.…
“Euthanasia”, “mercy killing”, and “physically assisted suicide” – no matter what it is called – they all mean the same thing: ending a person’s life who is in a vegetative state or who is suffering from terminal illness, in order to relieve the subject of pain and suffering associated with their condition. But the main question is, is euthanasia right? Everyone dies, and if a person is terminally ill, then they should have the right to decide to pass away without the suffering.…
Explaining the meaning of self-esteem is not exactly an easy task. Different components have to be taken into consideration, such as psychological and sociological dimensions. While some perceive self-esteem as a psycho-dynamic process provided by the brain, others see it as a cognitive-behavior skill that is learned. It can also be explained as one’s attitude towards certain things. An overall statement of the general meaning agrees on combining different elements to describe self-esteem, such cognitive, affective, and behavioral. Overall, it can be defined as one’s sense of competence and self-worth. Differentiation needs to be made between healthy and unhealthy self-esteem. Healthy self-esteem is earned through successes and overcoming trial while unhealthy self-esteem comes from success that is given and can easily turn into narcissism, which is known to be connected to violent behaviors and bullying.…

The only thing that will give you as much heartache in school as love are grades (Colaba, n.d.). Throughout a student’s life in school, one is taught from society that the most important aspect in studies is to get good grades. Because of this, students’ motivation, learning, and even his or her personal progress are marginalized by the ‘ultimate goal’, which are the numbers use to evaluate one’s performance.…
