Take a position on the issue, either: The arts are just as important as the "solid subjects" (math, English, science, history), and schools should require students to take classes in art, music, dance or literature. School can be viewed as an extremely boring place to spend most of the day. Plain colors of paint cover the walls and the only sounds students and staff hear are the talk of other students and teacher lectures. The only imagination and color that comes out of schools are from the band rooms, art rooms, and the stages. With these classes and extracurricular activities students can not only express themselves, but music can flow down the hallways freely and art can cover the walls and bring a little color and joy to the school. Lately, some schools plan or already have taken away the arts programs from the schools and its students. Schools lose more money every year as budgets become lower. Many school districts have already decided that taking away these programs would help save money. The music and music programs should absolutely not be cut from schools because many jobs could be impacted or even lost. Students need to be able to have creativity in their lives and should be able to express themselves. These programs are also essential for students going into college to…

Due to the financial crisis there have been many changes made to government programs to reduce costs and help with debt. Many of these cuts are happening statewide, in America’s public schools. The first programs that are being cut are the art programs, and the excuse is that the core classes are more important. The argument is that children need to be more focused on test scores in Math, Science, English and History. It is unfair to single out art classes, there should be a more even spread of budget cuts, not just the sole elimination of the arts. There are parents who are indifferent with the arts and they are unfazed by their removal from elementary public schools. What many of these parents do not recognize is that there are actually benefits of the arts that help with core subjects. Some benefits are strengthening problem solving skills, stimulating critical thinking and helping developmental growth. There is also a duel component that shows that there is a direct correlation between SAT test scores and art programs in schools, as well as higher participation and attendance. It has also been shown that the arts can help boost the economy.…

In NASA, the Mars science lab rover is acknowledged, over a budget at 2.5 billion dollars. Although Obama’s Fiscal plan for 2013 would incise NASA’s funds from 587 million dollars to 360 million dollars, no quantity of money is worth Mars exploration. Mars is still merely a rocky surface in the midst of no indication of water or active geology. Space exploration is exceptionally expensive to the citizens of the United States; the government could unquestionably use this money to better the country where the people live. Exploration costs millions of dollars which is completely unnecessary to provide the NASA space program.…

To my dear surprise it is legal in some states to get married at the age of 14, as long as there is parental and court approval. To me this is completely shocking! I myself have an 11 year old daughter and if she were to come to me at 14 years old and ask to get married I would say “NO” without any hesitation. In my opinion, 14 is not just too young to get married, it is too young to have a boyfriend for that matter. It apparently isn’t just the child’s fault for thinking it is ok, I would strongly suggest that the child’s parents be evaluated. What parent in their right mind would be ok with their 14 year old child getting married?…

Art in schools is necessary in building a child’s development for many reasons. Art in schools helps a child develop their motor skills, language development, decision making, visual learning, inventiveness, cultural awareness, and helps to improve their academic performance. Some parents see the arts, whether it be a traditional art class or theater or music as a privilege or an extracurricular a student is lucky to have, but the arts should be viewed as necessity. Art taught in schools helps a child develop their motor skills.…

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” said by the famous artist Pablo Picasso. This quote is relevant in many school corporations. Throughout the country, education budgets are cut. Unfortunately, the first budgets to be eliminated are for the arts. The arts improve graduation rates, enhance overall intelligence, and improve SAT scores. A topic often argued is that the money is being wasted on the arts and required academics are more essential. Some people believe students should focus on the required classes because they are needed to advance to higher education. Currently, the academically required classes do not include the arts; however, the arts should be required because they strengthen an…

In my speech class a couple days ago everyone took an attitude analysis quiz in which they rated each upcoming persuasive speech topic. For my persuasive speech I picked the topic of how art education is important for a child’s development. After the quiz, most students said they felt neutral, meaning they did not agree or disagree, with my topic. I am assuming they are mostly just uninformed and do not realize the topic’s relevance to their future generations. Therefore, I will include sufficient information in my persuasive speech to help bring my classmates up to date on my topic. I will present to them facts and advantages to help persuade them to agree with my topic and its relevance.…

The practice of assisted suicide in the field of medicine is one of the most controversial issues facing us as a society today. Euthanasia of a patient is a taboo that can get a doctor’s license to practice medicine revoked and the doctor can face incarceration for his/her actions which are classified as a homicide. This practice is not something I believe should be looked down upon or tabooed as many other believe. It is a matter of choice, something that should be allowed to any terminally ill patient who wishes it so long as they are mentally competent to make such a decision. There is also a precedent for assisted suicides in the Physician Aid in Dying, or PAD laws in the states of Washington, Oregon, and Montana where patients can be assisted in causing their own deaths. Others may say it devalues human life and that it is an unethical act, which is not true since it is more helping the people by taking the pain away from them during the end of their lives. I don’t believe that euthanasia is just giving the patient the choice of giving up, but rather the choice to be done with the pain and control one’s fate if that pain is too much for them to handle or to keep fighting if they wish to.…

Have you thought about how your family, your home, music and even television have influenced you on the way you behave or even dress? While I was in middle school it was mandatory for all students to wear uniform and I loved it, i felt welcome into the school and since every one had to wear the same thing no one was bullied and i became a straight A student sice i would only focuse in school. Then high school came along and I hated being there, since i couldnt affford all the nice clothes or shoes people had, i was bullied and the only thing that keep me motivated into going to school was that both my parents didnt finish high school and had to drop out to take care of their family. When i was bullied i would just think to myself and say i know that at the end of the day i will have the better laugh, and thats what happened. Most of the schools that require uniforms have a structure or a certain color that all students have to wear, but the one that dont require uniform uniform, majority of them hav a strict policy on the things they can wear. "It's not just a game," to many athletes this statement rings true. Sports fuel the drive and determination within people, and provide them an essential learning tool from which they can grow. Competitive is defined as, "of or relating to a situation in which people or groups are trying to win a contest or be more successful than other : relating to or involving competition ."(merriam-webster.com) This concept of competitiveness is the foundation of all sports. The competitive spirit and thirst to want to better oneself in order to be at the top is a fueling force that will propel our children far beyond their years on the court. Providing children with equal playing time in youth sports discourages the necessary need for healthy competition and takes away valuable life lessons that will prepare them for the future.…
