When talking about WW2 and Japan, something that comes to mind often is the atomic bomb. Some people say it was a good thing, as it ended one of the worst war in history. however, some say that it was wrong to drop a bomb of a country that was on the verge of surrender. Proof of this statement, this essay will tell you. The atomic bomb was something that helped America win the war. However, it wasn't something that our country absolutely needed. The United States did an awful thing when it dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. If it was aimed at a military target, it is not remembered for that. It is remembered because of the civilian people whose lives were ruined by this horrible action and the terror that the photos …show more content…
They would think that the bomb was the only reason why the Japanese surrendered and therefore ended the war. America thought that Japan was only getting started on the war, so they bombed the country, despite them not knowing that Japan was going to surrender anyway. Many people do think that the bomb saved our country, but that is debatable. Most historians think that a strong military is all we needed to beat them. Though we would’ve had to specialize in aerial combat. In Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, there are many examples to why the atomic bomb is good and bad. However, we will be focusing on just the bad due to the topic of this essay. In this book, Louie and the gang were going for the bombing, unaware of Japan planning to surrender in the near future. They bombed the area. While everyone supporting America was happy, Japan was heavily damaged. However, they couldn't declare war, due to how hurt they were. In WW2, the bomb wasn't the smartest thing America did. As they hurt many innocent Japanese people in the process. If President Harry Truman and the military thought out there plan to end the war. They could've ended it much more peacefully. If America were really wanted to drop the bomb, they should've dropped it on Germany, as they were the next threat during the

    I don't think that the US should have bombed Japan. It was entirely unnecessary and the US had plenty of opportunities to do other things. America could have used a technical demonstration to show how powerful the bombs were on a nearby, but uninhabited, island. This would have been a effective intimidation act while not adding to WWII's already enormous death count.     A key reason for Truman’s decision to drop the Atomic Bomb was the alternative options were not proper solutions. Dropping the bomb wasn’t the only considered option. The main “runner up” was a mass invasion of Japan. This idea was very dangerous. The casualties for the US were projected to be over 1,000,000 soldiers, and 5,000,000 japanese soldiers.     Firstly, the bombs saved more lives than it claimed. To illustrate, many American and Japanese lives would have been lost in the battles to capture Japan.
