I am writing you today to ask for your support. This year, on Saturday, August 5, I will be riding in my first Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), from Wellesley to Bourne. The PMC raises money for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. My employer, Waters Technologies Corporation, is sponsoring a team for the first time, so I decided to join “Team Waters.” I will be riding in honor of my Mom, a breast cancer survivor and in memory of my sister, Jayne, who on May 17, 2017 lost her battle to liver and colon cancer.…

It is really a special day to see all these runners participate in this Red legs Run. It shows how strong and supportive the Red Leg community and that there is always opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our youth. I projected that this race would hopefully raise 50,000$dollars. Ladies and Gentlemen. Today we have already raised over $180,000 and that number is continuing to rise. This number is unprecedented and I want to personally thank all of the sponsors and participants for helping us achieve our goal of 50,000. This money will be incorporated into the Red's community fund. This money will fund some of our outreach programs. Outreach programs include the Reds Rookie Success League, a free, coed, character-building program for 6-12 year olds in Greater Cincinnati. It will also fund Youth Baseball and Softball Funding, which underwrites expenses for more than 400 inner-city teams throughout Reds Country. Also, it will aid in Renovations of multiple baseball fields. The funds from this Red Leg Run will help restore over 325 baseball and softball…

Since I was young, my parents have always taught my sister and I the value of giving your time to help others. When my mom had asked if we would be interested in being volunteers for Carly’s Crossing ten years ago, I would have never guessed the impact I could make not just for pediatric cancer patients and their families at Roswell Park, but the impact volunteering had on myself. Looking back, I have now realized that Carly’s Crossing has helped me to build character.…

Each year an organization called American Cancer Society travels around the world hosting an event called Relay for Life raising money to help cancer research. Communities around the world join together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones who have lost the fight to cancer and to fight back against the disease that has taken the lives of so many. Relay for life began thirty years ago by a man named Dr. Gordy Klatt a surgeon from Tacoma, Washington. Klatt was a man with a utopian vision, he wanted to raise money for his local American Cancer Society office. He did so by doing something he loved, running marathons. In May 1985, Klatt spent 24 hours running laps around a track for 83 miles at Baker Stadium at the University of Puget…

After my attendance I knew this was an event that I want to continue take part in. During my tenure at Broward College, I participated as a group member on the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society team. We were responsible for informing attendees about the various cancers, causes and potential treatments. Relay for Life is an overnight fundraising event done by the American Cancer Society to help fight cancer. I took part in the Luminaria Ceremony which usually takes place after dark where candles are lit inside a personalized bag and placed around a track. The bags represent glowing tributes to individuals who have been affected by cancer. I interacted with survivors and individuals that are still battling cancer for approximately six hours. I wished I could have stayed overnight but never-the-less the time spent with them was…

The last event I considered is Nurse assistant. The purpose of this event is to provide students with a chance to develop the knowledge and skills of a nursing assistant. The first step to this competition is a multiple choice test. To get to the second round you are required to pass the test. You will also be required to do hands on skills, and you are judged on your skills. This competition would help me to become familiar with the usual hands on skills all nurses are required to know.…

UNI Dance Marathon has been able to make significant contributions to the kids and families in the Cedar Valley area who has been treated at the University of Iowa Hospital. I joined the sponsorship committee after wanting to get involved with Dance Marathon. The sponsorship committee was one of the last committees to accept members and since I signed up late I got “stuck” with it. And I’m glad I did. This committee has given me an opportunity to grow and develop as a student and a leader. It has allowed me to understand the importance of giving of myself and finding my true purpose. I am confident in my belief that the students who power UNI Dance Marathon today will be the future leaders of our society and that they will make a positive impact to our…

When you are getting started putting your motorcycle run together you need to think about what cause you would like to raise money or awareness for. Then you need to find a trustworthy group of people who are just as passionate about the cause as you are. For my motorcycle run my committee consists of my family and a couple of close friends of my fathers. Our cause is for autism which is very close to all of our hearts because we have family that are effected with autism and some very close friends with autistic children. Once you have your cause figured out if there is an organization for your cause that you want to donate to, you then needs to get in contact with them. When you get in contact with them they are usually very supportive or your event, the Autism Society Heartland has always been very supportive of our run and even lets us present the check to them at one of their fundraisers.…
