Persuasive Essay On Having Twins
“You know there’s two, don’t you? My reply was “Two what?” “Two babies!” That was the way I found out I was having twins two days before they were born. My fascination with twins began long before that moment but it was after that I began looking for any information I could find. I wanted to learn everything I could about why twins happen, what complications from a premature birth may cause and other things that only those who are twins can tell.
Identical twins are a scientific and medical mystery. While much research has been conducted, no one has been able to pinpoint the reason one embryo splits into two separate embryos. Unlike identical twins, fraternal twins are conceived from two eggs and two sperm that are conceived at the same

According to the March of Dimes website, more than half the twins are born prematurely, before 37 weeks gestation, at a low birth weight which can lead to long term health problems for the babies. (Being pregnant with twins, triplets and other multiples, retrieved July, 2016) Mothers of multiples are at a greater risk of developing gestational diabetes as well as having to have a c-section. My own pregnancy was complicated by the fact I didn’t know I was going to have twins. A placental abruption was the reason for my premature delivery. Mayo Clinic defines a placental abruption (abruptio placentae) is an uncommon yet serious complication of pregnancy. The placenta is a structure that develops in the uterus during pregnancy to nourish the growing baby. If the placenta peels away from the inner wall of the uterus before delivery — either partially or completely — it's known as placental abruption. Placental abruption can deprive the baby of oxygen and nutrients and cause heavy bleeding in the mother. Placental abruption often happens suddenly. Left untreated, placental abruption puts both mother and baby in jeopardy. (Placental abuption, retrieved July, 2016) Once a placental abruption occurs, cesarean delivery is imminent and must happen within minutes for the babies and sometimes the mothers to

Twin studies are often used to determine how greatly genetics can contribute to a person’s character. This is because identical twins share exactly the same DNA, so the use of twins can investigate what may have been caused by genes as logically, if something is caused by genes then both the twins will exhibit…

Twin studies are, “comparisons of identical (monozygotic) twins to fraternal or nonidentical (dizygotic) twins.” These studies are mainly to contribute to hereditary effects and also estimate heritability. Scientists and researchers look toward twin studies to debate the nature versus nurture on childhood. For many years scientists have tried to study twins to see if genetics and/or environment influence individuals. Sir Francis Galton (one of the first scientists to conduct twin studies) studied influential genetics are on intelligence, more than a century ago. Galton also suggested that children get their intelligence from parents. “Identical twins have the same genetic construction. So, by studying identical twins who were brought up in different environments, “scientists can see the impact of genes on development.” For fraternal twins, scientists study the impact of outside environment on the children’s personalities (Bryner, 2006).…

The birth of a child is truly a miracle. From the moment most parents find out they have been blessed with the gift of life, expectations begin. Most parents wonder what their child will look like, whether the child is a boy or a girl, and in some cases, how many children will they be blessed with. Will their child be the next president of the United States or a gifted scientist who will discover the cure for some of medicine’s most devastating illnesses? Very few parents ever dream that the birth of their child could be one of the most stressful times in their lives. For the parents of a premature infant, this can be a nightmare from which the parents cannot awaken.…

If you could take the chance to see if your baby had any harmful diseases before delivery, would you? There needs to be accessibility to the tests so that parents will be more ready financially and emotionally for any birth abnormalities. 1 in 33 babies are affected with birth defects in the US each year (Prenatal Nierneberg). Birth defects could be prevented or the parents could be ready for the possible outcomes after birth. The Federal government should legislate for more accessibility to prenatal genetic testing by increasing funding to testing facilities, increasing funding towards research for new forms of testing, and by reducing restrictions on physicians.…

The study of twins is still a relatively knew thing that started in 1870s by Francis Galton. He wrote and believed that nature has a bigger influence on a person rather than nurture and based his belief in cases of twins. He also guessed that identical twins must come from one single fertilized egg while non-identical must be from two separate ones. His guess was confirmed with further studies in 1883 but Galton himself had no evidence to support his idea.…

In 1973 in the United States in the Roe V. Wade decision, the supreme court ruled that women, in consultation with their physician, have a constitutionally protected right to have an abortion in the early stages of pregnancy- that is, before viability- free from government interference. (Guttmacher Institute) This did not spark the controversy of the topic, however. Can you remember a time in your past or even in the present where you could bring up the topic of abortion and everybody was calm and supportive? I cannot. Abortion has been a discouraged activity it seems since before abortion was even printed in a dictionary. Most Americans are very hostile to the idea of women aborting their unborn children, but there are also many that are supportive to the idea, because they are more understanding and do believe there are rational reasons for this to occur. Religion is a very remarkable influence in human ways of life and it is mostly because of religion that people negatively view abortion. I am not pro-abortion, however I am pro-choice.…
