Persuasive Essay On Cancer

There are many chronic diseases throughout the United States that are killing thousands and thousands of people, year after year. With the help of a five million dollar grant, I believe we should focus our efforts on cancer. Cancer, the second leading cause of deaths in America, continues to hinder many lives(mayo). People are losing their loved ones to this horrific disease, which still lacks a cure. Cancer used to be most common in elderly people but its impact on children and young adults is what makes it a major issue and catches my attention. I will use this program to help find a cure or at least speed up the process of finding a cure to prevent people from dying from this disease. Treatment for cancer was unheard of and was not available to just anyone. Now with our advancement in technology and treatment, cancer is now a long-term chronic illness. Yes after treatment some people are cancer free but for some it is just a long road of pain and discomfort. All the surgeries and drug intake weakens a persons body severely. People are spending their lives with extreme side effects from treatment, often suffering from body pain and physical damages. Depression is also common among cancer patients. Being stuck in a hospital bed and going through the same treatments everyday can take a toll on ones mindset.
