Persuasive Essay
Being healthy is an important factor in life. Many people try to be healthy, but not everyone is successful. The question we need to ask ourselves is what is the number one thing we consume daily and can’t live without it? Water! The water we drink hydrates us and gives us numerous kinds of antioxidants and minerals. Although not all water is good for your health. For instance, the water that we use daily for washing cars, washing vegetables, feeding animals, and even drinking all comes from the tap. Tap water is city water from the city that everyone uses. Not everyone realizes what exactly is in the tap water. So are you drinking the water you should be?
Many studies have shown that there are many bad chemicals in the city water. Traces of drugs were even found in different states. So if tap water is unhealthy and actually bad, what water should we drink? Alkaline water! Alkaline water has a ph of 7.0 +, the lower the ph is the more acidic it is, which is not good for your health. Cancer for instance, has acidic cells, so by drinking alkaline water it actually fights cancer and many other diseases. Doctors say “alkaline water is full of antioxidants and can help you resist disease and slow the aging process”. This water is a health drink, with its greater concentrations of ionized h20 molecules, and through electromagnetic means it causes more free electrons to be available in the water as well as greater hydration potential.
Alkaline antioxidant water can increase the general efficiency of all systems of the body. You get better interaction from vital enzymes, vitamins, structural, and antioxidant molecules. The better quality of the water, the better it is for the body. The results of this water may be seen in many ways including improved sleep, enhanced sense of well-being, better exercise endurance, improved elimination of cellular wastes, clearer thinking , increased

Tap Water: Tap water is the most efficient water available. Unfortunately, it is also vulnerable to occasional contamination. This is usually locally due to damaged pipes. This type of problem can be fixed in a timely manner. For the most part, the water is not much different from bottled water. It can be consumed directly from the pipes without harm. Even when the water is contaminated it is usually not fatal. Water pipes efficiently carry water across the nation as far as cost is concerned. There is no trash to pile up in your local landfill. Special filters are available for those who prefer filtered water. You could reuse the same bottle if you have an insatiable desire for bottled water.…

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send the homeless tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” Reference? America has long been the land of freedom and hope to the world, and the American military is what has kept her that way. People have forgotten how important and valuable the military is to the world that we live in. As part of the Budget Control Act of 2011, automatic sequestration calls for $1.2 trillion in lowered federal spending, with 50% coming from defense and 50% coming from non-defense budgets. If Congress cannot reach an agreement, these cuts will reduce the Department of Defense spending by about $55 billion dollars. On September 11, 2001, the United States faced a difficult time in which 3,000 lives were lost due to an attack upon the U.S. by terrorists who hijacked airplanes and crashed them into the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the United States Pennsylvania! That day, 9/11, has become a day in which we remember the lives that were lost and the families who were affected by such a tragedy. We called on our military once again, and they were there to protect our country. I am against automatic sequestration towards the military and military programs for many reasons.…

    Bottled Water

Which is better? Bottled water or tap water? Well to answer that question I decided to do an experiment. In general there are many reasons why you should not drink bottled water. Bottled water uses many resources and creates huge amounts of waste. It is estimated that it takes over 25 million gallons of petroleum to produce 1 billion plastic water bottles. To put that into perspective, Americans consume about 50 billion plastic water bottles every year, and that is not counting soda bottles! It also produces 1.5 million tons of plastic every year and plastic takes 700 years to decompose. Bottled water also has BPA's that have been linked to diseases such as breast cancer in women, prostate cancer in men, and the development of Alzheimer’s disease in both sexes. It has also been shown to cause resistance to insulin, which can complicate health issues for diabetics. It is no healthier than tap water and is expensive, which I will be showing you in this experiment. Over 1/3 of the bottled water (Dasana and Aquafina to name a couple) is just tap water that has been purified at the source. To give you another perspective, let’s break down costs. If you purchase a 20 oz water bottle at the cost of $1.00, that breaks down to about 5 cents per ounce. Compare that to drinking filtered tap water at home, where you would be paying about 1-2 cents a gallon! Bottled water is estimated to cost up to 2000 times what tap water costs. Believing that bottled water is any better than tap water is just what marketers want you to believe when they advertise and put on labels with beautiful…

Due to the financial crisis there have been many changes made to government programs to reduce costs and help with debt. Many of these cuts are happening statewide, in America’s public schools. The first programs that are being cut are the art programs, and the excuse is that the core classes are more important. The argument is that children need to be more focused on test scores in Math, Science, English and History. It is unfair to single out art classes, there should be a more even spread of budget cuts, not just the sole elimination of the arts. There are parents who are indifferent with the arts and they are unfazed by their removal from elementary public schools. What many of these parents do not recognize is that there are actually benefits of the arts that help with core subjects. Some benefits are strengthening problem solving skills, stimulating critical thinking and helping developmental growth. There is also a duel component that shows that there is a direct correlation between SAT test scores and art programs in schools, as well as higher participation and attendance. It has also been shown that the arts can help boost the economy.…

Next to air, water is the most essential part to our survival. Water is essential to the health maintenance because it is an essential nutrient that accounts for about 60 percent of adult body weight. Since water makes up more than two thirds of our bodies, without it, we would die in a few days. Our brain is made up of 95 percent of water, our blood is 82 percent, and our lungs are 90 percent water. In addition to water being essential to health maintenance, the water flow within our body is used in and around major organs to maintain our bodies functioning, contributes to the flow of blood, and the functioning of the GI tract, which is vital for digestion. Furthermore, water plays a key role in the prevention of disease. Drinking eight glasses of water daily can decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45 percent, bladder cancer by 50 percent, and can potentially reduce the risk of breast cancer (water and health).…
