Analytical Essay #1 In George H. Jenson and John K. DiTiberio 's article titled, “Personality and Individual Writing Process” they compare someones personality to that of their writing process. Through this examination, Jenson and DiTiberio, come to realize that while teaching the writing process, teachers, professors or whom ever is instructing this process should take into consideration the individuals personality types. Determining the students personality can help prevent things like writers block when it comes to writing a paper or article. Once the individuals personality type is determined then steps can be made to individualize writing instruction. Many ideas on how to identify different learning styles have already been introduced in classrooms. One being Jung 's Theory of Psychological Types. C. G. Jung 's system humanistically appreciates differences in personality and make it easy for teachers without a psychology background to understand. In Jung 's presentation of Psychological Types that Isabel Myers later refined researchers find promise to for the improvement of instruction and research for the composition field. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) has also been useful to different areas of research and can easily be used to help the research in composition. Teachers must receive training before administering the MBTI, but the information it holds can greatly help them in the way they teach (Jenson and DiTiberio, pg 286). According to Jung, personality consists of four bi-polar dimensions. These being: Introversion vs. Extroversion, Sensing vs. Intuition, Thinking vs. Feeling, and Judging vs. Perceiving. Introversion vs. Extroversion is based off how we focus our energy. Extroverts tend to focus their energy on interacting with people and things where as introverts tend to focus their energy inward through consideration and contemplation. Sensing vs.

Personality influences how people think, feel, respond, judge, and their well-being and life decisions. Therefore, personality develops the character traits of individuals. As written by Twenge and Zhang (309) based on two meta-analyses carried out on young Americans, a majority of them believe that their lives are subject to forces outside their efforts. The subjects of this study, who were mostly college students and young children between the ages of nine and 14, showed that for most people, personality predetermines how they interact with others around them. The role of personality in shaping individuals' lives has been considered by several scholars, who believe that people are driven by their personality, which, in turn, shapes their…

After reading the article “The Composing Processes of Unskilled College Writers” by Sondra Perl I have been forced to understand how writers write. The writing process is a situation that is approached from various angles. In the writing process techniques and sequences from person to person are often diverse, but it is one of the ways one may be expressed. The goal of Perl study was to “see how unskilled writers write, can their writing process be analyzed in a systematic, replicable manner, and what does an increased understanding of their process suggest about nature of composing in general and the manner in which writing is taught in schools.” (191) With Perl performing this observation and collecting several amounts of data I decided to perform an observation on my writing by paying close attention to how I write. With analyzing I realized that my writing process have a very sequential pattern. I also have noticed that many acts of critical planning and editing are carried out through many of my writings and it has had a negative effect on the majority of my writing masterpieces. Subsequent to carefully critiquing my writing I have realized that all individuals have a different way they write.…

When looking at each personality traits I did find I leaned more towards the conscientiousness, emotional and openness to experience. These are the three things that my personality shows the most. The one that I believe fits me the most is conscientiousness. I am the type of person that is very thorough with everything I do and carefully try to plan things out as best as possible. I work hard to make sure that everything is planned out and try to get everything to play out like it should. The other personality that fits me is openness to experiences. Openness would involve being able to have an active imagination. I do have a very active imagination which helps me at my current job. As I am trying to find ways to be creative with my advertising. I do have an intellectual curiosity. If I find something that seems to interest me I look more into it. I like to expand my intellect as best as possible. Having a preference to variety is great to have as well with advertising. Not all places that we try to advertise with will like what we are doing. So once in a while we need to mix things up. I do think I need to work a bit more on attentiveness to inner feelings. I seem to ignore how I feel about certain things and go with what I believe should happen.…

According to the test, my personality type is ENFJ (Extraverted Intuitive Feeling Judging). For extraverted my percentage was 56, for Intuitive 38 percent, feeling was 50 percent and judging was 67. This numbers describe me as moderately expressed extravert, moderately expressed intuitive, moderately expressed feeling, and distinctively expressed judging. I believe this test is partially right. I’m easily sympathized for others. I don’t feel I judge a lot, so I think this part is not too accurate, unless I’m unaware of this personality. The extrovert part, I also believe this part is inaccurate because at times, I follow my instincts, but at others I rely on logic.…

Thus, personality is what differentiates or distinguishes a person. It is a mask that sets an individual apart from others.…
