Personality Profile
Reliability is the consistency of your measurement, or the degree to which an instrument measures the same way each time it is used under the same condition with the same subjects. In short, it is the repeatability of your measurement. Validity is the strength of our conclusions, inferences or propositions. More formally, Cook and Campbell (1979) define it as the "best available approximation to the truth or falsity of a given inference, proposition or conclusion." In short, were we right? The real difference between reliability and validity is mostly a matter of definition. Reliability estimates the consistency of your measurement, or more simply the degree to which an instrument measures the same way each time it is used in under the same conditions with the same subjects. Validity, on the other hand, involves the degree to which you are measuring what you are supposed to, more simply, the accuracy of your measurement. It is my belief that validity is more important than reliability because if an instrument does not accurately measure what it is supposed to, there is no reason to use it even if it measures consistently (reliably).
Jung Typology: This questionnaire was highly influenced by Myers Briggs type indicator which is a psychometric questionnaire designed to measure how people perceive the world and make decisions. This assessment has been called the world’s most widely used personality assessment because it is used as many as two million times a year. Studies have shown that this method has a test-retest validity which means that it was given to the same group of people on two different occasions and the results were the same. Critics have claimed that this particular instrument “lacks convincing validity data”, (Wood, 2004) while other studies have also found the statistical validity and reliability to be low. Assessments are usually reliable when you get the same results regardless of when the assessment is taken or who does the scoring. On the other hand, Validity indicates how well an assessment actually measures what it is supposed to measure.     The historical backdrop of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) began with Carl Jung, the organiser of analytical psychology. Jung believed that individuals are either stimulated by the outer world (Extraversion) or their own inner world (Introversion). In the same way Jung observed individuals took in data (Perceiving) or organise data and frame a conclusion (Judging). Additionally Jung noted that individuals mostly demonstrate a dominant part. In this way, in 1921, Jung distributed Psychological Types in which he displayed the thought of Jungian models (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Manual, 2012). Isabel Myers-Briggs developed the MBTI in the 1920s based on Jung’s theoretical constructs with an additional two dimensions of styles of living, consisting of a fourth scale that measures perceiving and judging (Myers, McCaully, Quenck, & Hammer, 2003; Mullins, 2005; Schreuder & Coetzee, 2011).     Jung, Isabel Briggs Myers, and Katharine Briggs were essential in the development of the MBTI. Jung was the first to propose the theory of psychological type, while Myers and Briggs were the proponents of the research and creation of the actual test.     I am 47 years old and born on January 05. I am happily married with two children both living on their own with their respective husbands. My ambition since child was to become a teacher which was influenced by my high regards to my mentors looking at them as having so much knowledge and wisdom to impart to their students. The childhood ambition was derailed due to financial considerations when I was a freshman with my three other siblings also in college. I had to consider a course that would free my parents from the burden of not only the tuition fees but all the expenses for a decent and promising career. My acceptance to the Philippine Military Academy in 1981 made my parents the proudest in the community. A lot have been dreaming of entering the premier military school but only a few are given the opportunity and privilege. Besides, it has been the wishes of my late father to have one of his three sons to be in the military service as he could never forget his adventures with the Japanese forces as a child. Upon graduation from PMA, another sort of luck came when I was given a scholarship to yet another premier school, the University of the Philippines, which I took up BS Civil Engineering course and eventually passed the board examinations. This chartered my career in the military. I’m now with the Philippine Army Corps of Engineers which I recently handled the salient position as Chief of Staff of the 53rd Engineer Brigade.
