Castle’s Family Restaurant is a local, small family owned business. Business is booming due to the location of the restaurants. The family-owned business is usually a case of a dream vs. reality. With crazy hours, small profits and no relief, a small business is tough to handle. Finding employees who are the right “fit” is especially difficult for smaller, family owned businesses, which often do not have the luxury of a human resources department. Jay Morgan is the operations manager but playing two roles in this company by also acting as the HR manager, which is not good for him or for the company. As a Human Resource consultant for a small franchise like Castle’s, I would want to ensure that the restaurant is operating well because I know the success of the restaurant is heavily built around the flow in which it functions. The work environment of a restaurant is usually fast paced, and requires the maximum efficiency. Employees are almost always part-time workers, except for managers and other supervisors. Mr. Morgan is traveling too much during the week to each location to handle several to almost all of the HR functions.…

Profile I am a self motivated, dedicated, and ambitious individual. Although I have a great deal of experience in the food and restaurant industry, I am always looking to broaden my knowledge in other industries. I get along well with others, while also working efficiently on my own. I am seeking a position where I can develop and excel while giving my best to an employer. Experience Server, Bob Evans Flint, Mi January 2012-February 2013 At Bob Evans, I started as a hostess. I worked my way onto the serving floor. Once I became a server, my job description changed from seating guests, and cashing guests out to, taking orders, delivering food, tending to guests needs, while keeping up with the daily cleaning tasks myself and my coworkers shared. I was a closing server, therefore I was responsible for breaking down the server aisle and stocking silver wear, cups, and dishes for the opening servers. Crew Member, Tropical Smoothie Davison, Mi February 2013-August 2013 At Tropical Smoothie Cafe, as a crew member, I was held accountable for knowing how to do every position in the restaurant. These positions included, being on the cash register, making and blending smoothies, and making all food items. Along side of these specialized jobs within the store, I was cleaning, doing dishes, and prepping fruit, vegetables, and meat. I was an opener at Tropical Smoothie, therefore I was responsible for a key to the store, and held accountable for the money in the cash registers when I was opening. “Every day, a framed poster of a mountain climber given to me by my daughter Trudy reminds me to ‘climb with care and confidence.’ I wholeheartedly believe in this philosophy, which is why in all my years in the restaurant business, I have never tried to overextend. I’m satisfied stepping from one plateau to the next, making sure we’re doing everything right before moving on. That way of thinking has allowed us to grow steadily into a 1.98 billion-dollar business with more than 1,240 restaurants, while responding to the needs of people around us. I know the best way to grow our business is to climb with care and confidence.”…

I would learn all aspects of running a successful club from being a bouncer, waiter, bartender, and manager. I would like to gain as much hands-on experience as possible while I am young and still in college; therefore, I will become a better manager because I have actually performed all of the different jobs within a bar. Not only am I majoring in Hospitality Management but also I am in the Army ROTC Program, and I plan on commissioning in the United States Army for thirty years or until I am eligible to retire. After my retirement, I plan to use my knowledge I gained in my HRTM classes and practiums to acquire a job in this rewarding field. I am interested in the food and beverage aspect of the industry. My ultimate goal is to own my business; moreover, I envision an establishment, The Outpost, geared to active military and veterans. The Outpost would offer a family friendly restaurant where active duty soldiers can bring their families to eat near their post and a bar to have a drink with friends. The military memorabilia and my promise to donate a percentage of the profits to Wounded Warrior Project will attract veterans. The operation of a bar is very interesting as well as the challenges of advertising and catering to the needs of the patrons and keeping the bar relevant. My practicum at White’s Restaurant and my future practicum at a local bar in…

Years of managing and owning a fast food restaurant certainly has its benefits. I know what customers like and what they might not like and the kind of service they like to be provided with. I tend to have good communication skills with both the customers and staff, which tend to be imperative too. Being friendly with the customers encourages them to come to my shop more often. I make sure me and my staff act friendly with them and provide them with the best possible service. I understand how to…

Any company needs a system of control and measurement. This is all the more true in the food industry, wherein the expected output is not only about taste or profitability, but also on several factors that could cause a multitude of praise or problems such as quality of service, effective controls, innovative product mix, brand image, etc (Profitable Tips For All Restaurant Owner, by Kevin Moll). Although the restaurant operations group, central office, administrative support, and upper management are all expected to be calibrated and to work in harmony, this type of business requires a funnel point, or local management whose role to act remotely on behalf of, but in full calibration with, upper management in terms of policy implementation, achieving store targets, local marketing, and other operational tasks. This funnel point is the Restaurant Manager (Ninemeier, Jack D.; Hayes, David K. (2006). Restaurant Operations Management: Principles and Practices. Upper Saddle River, N.J: Pearson Prentice Hal).…
