My role varies in the class room; everyday brings a new learning opportunity. I am currently working three full days a week with year six. A class made up of twenty three very bright, talented nine to ten year old boys and girls and there very inspiring and motivated teacher. Although I say I work three days but more often then not it turns into a full week. (The children have that affect on you!) On a normal day (term used loosely) I help set up the class room before the children come in and any photocopying or printing that needs to be done , I will try and have complete before or during registration. Morning would usually consist of numeracy work followed on by literacy. I like to listen and take notes on what the children will be learning, even though the class teacher emails me the exercises a day before. But I strongly believe that it’s very important to have subject knowledge to be able to support the children.…

It is important to maintain a safe environment for students inside and outside of the classroom. My goal is to make sure that the children understand what being safe is. I make sure that they know how to play safe. All of the toys and the materials that the children use are safe. I make sure that there are no broken toys that may harm them around. The children along with me create the class rules. I make sure that the outlet plugs are in place and that the cabinets are secure. The children follow the classroom rules. I make sure that I supervise the children at all times. I also make sure that I observe the areas where they play, work, and eat. I make sure that shoes are tied. I make sure that the children use walking feet when we walk down the halls and in the classroom. When we transition to go outside we have to cross over an area where the cars drive. We make sure that we stop, look, and listen for cars and put out caution cones before we go to the playground. I also check the playground for sticks, trash, glass or any other items that can cause harm. I am also CPR certified so I know the procedure to help a child or adult in need. We have emergency plans displayed in the classroom. The children are aware of what to do in the case of emergency such as a fire. We make sure that the windows and the doors are secure at the end of the day.…

Most childcare workers will prepare meals and snacks for the children in their care. Most people with this job will help the children in their care keep up with having a good hygiene. The working environment will depend on where you are employed. Childcare workers can work in numerous places like childcares centers (daycares), their home, or the home of the children that are in their care. The values and principles that underpin the childcare sector work along side the laws, rules and regulations that I follow in my everyday work at my setting. They govern things such as how many children can attend my setting, how many staff I have working each day, making sure that the children’s wants and needs are met and that they are always the main focus of any planning I do. For myself it means that I have to always make sure that I keep myself up to date with any changes in these laws and regulations and that I keep myself up to date with any training so I can always provide the best possible care I can. When planning I try to use many different curriculum’s but always making sure that they are flexible and is based upon the values which nurture and encourage the children as individuals. The main framework I follow is based on the foundation phase covering seven different areas these are…
