Week 5: Personal Responsibility Essay: Final Draft
To achieve academic success, students must practice personal responsibility through effective time management and communication.
Personal responsibility also can be referred to as Accountability that is defined by Merriam-Webster as “the quality or state of being accountable; an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions.” http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/accountability. In my own words, being responsible is the same as being honest with oneself and possessing the honor and integrity to own up to all your decisions and accepting each consequence if one decides whether or not to follow through. Eleanor Roosevelt was quoted for saying; “In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/personal-responsibility. I agree with Eleanor Roosevelt because I control my own destiny. It is up to me to know the difference between right and wrong and make a wise decision. I know that any decisions I make will come with results. Results that I must maintain a focus mind on no matter what the consequences may be as well as understanding how it could affect the ones around me.
A preliminary plan to practice personal responsibility in my education would be time management. I want to concentrate on this area because as a student and in education I need to be able to have a better regiment as far as time management goes. Steinbrook (2006) stated: “The concept of personal responsibility in health care is that if we follow healthy lifestyles (exercising, maintaining a healthy weight, and not smoking) and are good patients (keeping our appointments, heeding our physicians’ advice, and using a hospital emergency department only for emergencies), we will be rewarded by

(Introduction) According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary personal means relating to the person or body and responsibility means the quality or state of being responsible such as a moral, legal, or mental accountability. Fritz Perls, the father of gestalt therapy, said that, “responsibility meant that we all have the ability to personally respond – “response-ability”. Perls also referred responsibility to the ability to move, feel, live, and change you. So, to my understanding, personal responsibility is one’s ability to care for what has been entrusted to them. It is when an individual accepts the outcome of whatever actions or decisions he/or she makes, instead of blaming other people for what did not turn out right. Personal Responsibility is important to me because it is something that I am supposed to have as a child of the Most High God. In this essay, it is my goal to define what personal responsibility is and what it means to me, explain the relationship between personal responsibility and college success, and give an example of how I plan to practice personal responsibility in my education.…

Personal responsibility is to have respect for themself and others around us. Responsibilities are where we take care of what needs done. Either in our personal lives, work, and in school. We as adults are responsible to take care of what needs done for each task that we take on for that day. If we are not responsible for what we do, we will not get what needs accomplished for that day. Responsible also means that we take account for our actions, no matter how big or how small the problem may be, and facing the consequences, results, and the outcome that your actions create. When people hear the word “responsibility,” they do not truly realize that it is easier than they think, and it comes naturally. “The power behind taking responsibility for your actions lies in putting an end to negative thought patterns. You no longer dwell on what went wrong or focus on whom you are going to blame. You don't waste time building roadblocks to your success. Instead, you are set free and can now focus on succeeding.” ― Lorii Myers…

I determined The Nature, Advantages and Limits of Personal Responsibility In Pursuit of a Wellness Lifestyle Ardell Wellness Report to be a reliable and relevant source after I researched the title of the periodical and the author’s name, Donald B. Ardell, Ph.D. in a couple of search engines like Google and Bing. The search engines mention his extensive book writing along with periodicals and essays published by several publishers since 1984. Mr. Ardell has been a member of the National Wellness Institute. He has won numerous national and world competitions. In July 2011, he was recognized with one of the highest honors in health promotion and wellness fields. I believe the author has an unbiased opinion on personal responsibility. From the information on line and a few of his periodicals I have read, Mr. Ardell seems to have an open mind on multiple topics. Although, I did not thoroughly read each of his periodicals, his thoughts were not read (in my opinion) to be judgmental. He is a motivational speaker who involves himself, inspires others, and has the ability to sway an audience to think outside the box when it comes to personal responsibility, their behaviors, and attitudes in their quest to have a better lifestyle when consequences of actions and a conscious thought process are considered before making a decision which may hurt you or those around you.…
