Personal Narrative: Working With Children
Working with kids didn’t seem like a big deal at first. In fact, the idea was really intriguing. However, as the time began to bring me closer to the moment, I could feel my heartbeat… every single pound in my chest harder and louder than the previous one. It beats so hard, I thought it might escape my chest. The thud began to echo in my ears, louder than my footsteps against the marble floor. I paused at the doorway, letting my eyes roam the room before anyone noticed my appearance. One last time, my unsteady hands quickly ran down my thighs through my faded light blue jeans. As the door stood towering above me, I let out a shaky breath, closing my eyes. I grasped the doorknob, the cold metal sending a shiver up my already quivering arm. I …show more content…
She’s about 5’6 and has blond, wavy hair that’s in a sloppy, pushed back bun with a thin Nike headband. With a body that seems to run everyday and arms that look like the width noodles, she wore a green PINK sweater that hangs loosely off her upper body and black PINK legging compressed against her legs. As I come to my senses, I realize her gently scrubbing paint off a girl’s hand with a once-was-white towel - before getting covered in red and green paint - soaked in soap and water. While I patiently waited for other kids to come, I sat at a round table that was covered in microscopic specks of black, grey, and white. Around the perimeter of the table was a thick black band giving it the circular shape. I began to focus on the splattered paint drops that were missed while someone must’ve scrubbed the majority of it off, when I heard fast footsteps being trailed with the same familiar voice. Looking up, I see Caitlyn greeting more children at the gate with their parents. The two kids look around the room with eyes of a little excitement and little eagerness to join the other children sitting at a table painting. During the first 45 minutes or so, the children speak amongst one another with low voices, you can clearly hear calming music in the background word for word, and the kids are all getting along. Each child painted at least two pictures and showed their creative artwork to the supervisors with a proud tone in their

Growing up can be challenging even with the ideal surroundings. Your teen years are even more puzzling because you seem to be stuck in between being a child and an adult. Throw in not having a father or mother around and life gets difficult. The year 2001 was a difficult year for my family and the nation. My life growing up wasn’t picture perfect, but in one very long month I learned that kindness from those around will help you endure and survive.…

When asked to write about a childhood experience most people think of the time they lost their first tooth when they were 6, or about the time they started school when they were 5, however, I’m going to write about summer. It wasn’t just any summer it was the summer that I went to the lake with my Dad and Papa. I was about 4 and couldn’t be any more excited about what was going to happen…

Being a leader in 4-H, I have taken on many roles to make the 4-H experience a memorable and very enjoyable. One of my more recent projects was creating a six week Cloverbud Science Club. After school, the cloverbuds in the Perham School District would come to the Science Club and learn various science topics including space, water, and chemistry. I prepared the lesson, taught, and cleaned up. Besides teaching, I became a quick problem solver when it came to a conflict. I learned how long the youth could focus on a project and how to explain the results from their experiments. This science program was the first taste of 4-H many of these students had, but it made their 4-H experience a fun and memorable journey. By implementing these programs,…

I knew from a very young age that I loved working with children. A majority of my previous jobs have involved children whether that be working at a recreational program for elementary school kids, nannying, or working as a patient care assistant at a children's hospital. I have always loved working with children and it is such a privilege to be able to watch the children I work with in any setting grow and develop. I have nannied since I was sixteen and to this day I am still excited every time I get a text from a parent that they need a babysitter. Working with children is so rewarding and it is something I know I will love doing as my career. I now work at a children’s hospital as a nursing assistant and each morning I wake up excited that…

When I was 17 it was 1995, I went on my first real date. We were going to see First Knight. The boy in question was the friend of a friend and I had only ever talked to him on the phone. He said he would pick me up at 7 and we would catch a movie. So far so good. 7 rolls around and he isn't there, he calls and says his Dad is running late so they won't be there till 8. I didn't realize his Dad was driving but whatever, I am withholding judgment. 8:30 they show up and he knocks on my door and I go out to join him. He leans in for a kiss and I lean very far back and awkwardly stick out my hand to shake his hand. He doesn't act like he knows what to do next and he is just staring at his feet and his Dad is staring at us and time just crawls. We finally just painfully walk to the car. It is not immediately apparent where we are going to be sitting. Now, this dude's Dad was HUGE. Not just his weight, but his entire freaking frame. He barely fits in his car. He has the driver's seat all the way back and in the front seat next to him is a cage of living breathing birds. The back seat is really only half a back seat because his Dad is filling so much of the car. I look at my date and look at the car. My date seems to have come to the same realization that there is really only one seat. I squeeze into the backseat while my date squeezes into the front seat with a bird…

The issue you tried to cover is really unique and good. When I was a child my siblings used to help me study mats, physics and chemistry. They always used to show me step by step and then, they let me practice with several similar questions. That helps me for my present knowledge. I remember there were other children’s whose parents will do their home works for them. For sure they used to get a better grade but I am not sure if it helped them. There for from my own experience it is better to guide them and let them to try and fail; since it won’t hurt them to fail instead it will teach…

In April, I was given the opportunity to work with several English language learners at P.S.189. I was able to work with Mrs. Bogue’s Kindergarten class and Mrs. James first grade classroom. During my visits, i was allowed to select students to partake in literacy and language activities. The teacher’s informed me of the students who were English language learners . I asked Mrs.Bogue and later Mrs.James to tell me a brief description of the students that I would engage in activities with. The children that I was able to work with during my fieldwork experience are as follows;…

When I got to St. Vincent’s hospital I thought I was in labor but the doctor said my water wasn’t broken yet. So I had to walk up and down the hallway for the baby to come down. Then finally the doctor pulled my water. And oh my god I was in so much pain. The nurse said” Keep pushing, the baby is almost out.” With a final push I had my baby. She was the most beautiful little baby with dark hair and big light brown eyes. I called Diana.…

Growing up, most of the children I knew would go to church on Sunday’s, visit their grandparents’ house to bake cookies after school, and have milk and cereal for breakfast every morning. But I had never set foot inside of a religious building, couldn’t even speak the same language as my grandmothers, and ate congee with fermented soy beans like it was the most natural thing in the world. My little town where I’d grown up, made friends, and built memories was, to say the least, completely un-diverse.…

My early literacy experience was not a big of a deal for me at an early age. When I was in school I always took a reading and writing course with a grain of salt, it was just one more class on my schedule. Literature did not really appeal to me in my early experience. I always think that why do I need to take a literature course in order for me to succeed in the future.…

I returned back from vacation this week and it was nice to see all the children’s smiling faces. The parent’s express how they missed me as well as their children. This makes me love my job even more. This week there was a two year old child who had a seizure at the center; this was scary for the children, staff, as well I. 911 had to be called out to the center. We all have had CPR and first aid training so we were comfortable with handling the case until the ambulance reached us. However, we were not so prepared when the child stopped breathing. This was a learning experience, but I do not want to do it again. I want all my children safe and happy. I had to ride with the child to the hospital till her mother was reached and notified what…

It is a beautiful day in Sacramento, California and I am just getting lunch at “Mrs. Castillo’s home for Orphans” while I was eating string cheese and carrots with my best friend Elijah, my other friend Allie ran into the cafeteria and said “Hey! Samara! I have something for you, from Mrs. Castillo! After she was done sprinting, she handed me a note that said “Mrs. Castillo’s office, and I looked at the bottom and I saw something circled… and it said NOW!!! In all capitals. I knew that I did something wrong, I just knew it! I was so nervous I felt like I was going to throw up. As soon as I got up to the door I knocked, and heard her say “Come in my dear.” I walked in the door, and as soon as I got in there she turned around…

People are like clay in the process of being sculpted, always changing and never be the same afterwards. We age, learn and grow everyday of our lives. Sometimes we experience events that change us in some way and we can look back on that event and recognize a difference before and after that moment. A life-changing experience that greatly contributed to forming the person I am today occurred during a three day confirmation retreat. I was born and raised Catholic, so it was expected that I would do Confirmation, and up until that point, I had been mostly passive about it before, seeing it as simply another after school activity.…
