Personal Narrative: Where Have I Been Revealed In High School?
I'll never forget the time I was cornered in the bathroom between the stall door and the one I fear most, Jacob. He approached me with a smirk on his face. I had nowhere to run or hide. Jacob slammed me against the stall door with great force and blood began gushing from my head as I dropped to the tile floor of the bathroom. I smacked the floor and he began kicking me over, and over until I was unconscious. I was lying in the bathroom surrounded by blood and humility; I was defeated again. This was one of the many times I was pushed around and put down. Over the years, I have learned that in order to be happy, fear must be faced rather than surrendered to even though that means comfort zones are threatened.
I slowly uncovered my arm from the sheets of my bed and reached for the

I quickly walked to my locker to get my book for math when I heard his voice echoing off the hallway walls of this dreadful place. I knew that I could not let him get to me anymore. I didn't know what to do, so I closed my locker and started walking the other direction. I could hear Jacobs steps getting faster and louder. I sped up more trying to escape, but I knew I could not retreat anymore. “Where do you think you're going, bum?” Shouted Jacob from behind me. I did not answer, I just kept walking to my class trying to ignore him. “Did you not hear me? Come here.” Angrily announced Jacob as he grabbed my shirt from behind me. “I'm going to class, Jacob, leave me alone.” I bravely responded. Jacob snickered and smacked my books out of my hand and shouted, “Pick ‘em up like they had to pick your dad up off the road, white trash.” I decided that he had done enough to me. I had been through more than the majority of people my age; I had to stand up for

The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

Jacobs reveals that she was taught to read and spell by her first mistress. Her ability to read makes her vulnerable to her master's harassment; he begins pressing his immoral attentions on her through vulgar notes, which forces Jacobs to feign illiteracy. After Jacobs escapes to the North, her former master continues to harass her through letters, sometimes threatening her and other times attempting to lure her into returning. While her ability to read makes Jacobs vulnerable to her master's abuse, it is, nonetheless, a source of power…

In life, there are periods of transition in which individuals often face daunting challenges or obstacles. Overcoming these challenges at pivotal points of transition can impel the individual to develop essential character qualities and skills for surmounting adversity. My transition into high school was momentous. Here I knew that the decisions I made would likely have a strong impact on my future. Therefore, I had to be meticulous about the extracurricular activities I wanted to be involved in. This mindset allowed me to stay focused and determined because I wasn't focused on going to the next party or the new music that was out. I cared solely about the legacy I left behind. That is why I decided to run for student government at the end…

My metamorphosis came about when I entered high school. My English teacher assigned a project in which we began mapping out our high school experiences so that they attract the attention of our desired colleges. After class, I opened up to her about how I did not have any direction in life. I had no clue what I wished to be or even why I was going to school. To my surprise, she didn’t ridicule me. She simply asked me to recall a time that inspired me when I was a child. It could be anything from a superhero movie to the first time I learned about the planetary system. Out of habit, I claimed that I was never inspired by anything. She then retorted that if that were the truth, why was I still being driven to exist. Without purpose, creatures lose the will to carry on so something had to have incited my passion to keep me active for all these years. To this day I am amazed by how a simple phrase could move…

My junior year in high school I took two classes from teachers who gave immense amounts of work on difficult material. The classes were Honors Pre-Calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II. After a day at school and a demanding golf practice until dark, it was time to start my homework. By then I was already exhausted, but I still had hours of homework ahead of me. Most schools nights I would not be able to start my hefty pile of homework until 8 o'clock. Many nights the strenuous assignments given in Honors Pre-calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II kept me awake late into the night, even as late as 4 am. It was difficult struggling to stay awake and complete my strenuous workload after an entire day of activity. A full night of sleep…
