Personal Narrative: What I Learned Before Finals
a. Two weeks before finals, in my first semester of college, I detached my retina and underwent emergency eye surgery. The surgery restored my vision, but I was restricted from strenuous activity and reading. I was frustrated with my limitations, but also terrified that I could permanently harm my vision. My doctor believed that since I was younger than his typical patient, I would make a swift recovery. Also, he understood how important my classes were to me, so we decided on an arrangement where I would regain a full field of vision, and be able to prepare for finals. The plan included slowly adding school work over weeks leading up to finals, and prepare for finals in ways that did not involve reading. My professors and I worked out agreements
