Personal Narrative: Vote For Nichole Mossalam
Indeed.com is probably one of the most underrated websites. I could not contain my excitement once I hit send and my resume was uploaded. It was 3 AM and I had come across a once in a lifetime internship. A disabled Muslim woman was looking for interns to aid her in her campaign in running for school committee in the town next to mine. I was anxious that she had already received loads of resumes and applications and that mine would get drowned in her piles. On my way to work the next morning, I checked my email and found one from her assistant. I could not believe my eyes, and so called the number he left for me right away. Wearing my t-shirt that says “Vote for Nichole Mossalam”, carrying the voter registration forms and handing out personalized campaign pins; I was pumped to spread the work of this motivated and humble candidate that would do an amazing job in representing the exploding diversity in Malden, Massachusetts. Canvassing and attending school and community events became a routine during my summer. We familiarized ourselves with the populace of the district and registered more than half to vote. I was overcome with the joy of how close-knit the community was. Although everyone was different, they rooted for Nichole in the election. Although she was a disabled Muslim woman, people believed in her to do the job and represent the community the right way. Helping people like Mrs. Mossalam to spread her positive message. Without realizing at first, this internship taught me some important skills that would contribute to George Washington. One of the most valuable skills that I have gained from my experience is the ability to speak with people in a professional setting. As an intern, I learned how to handle criticism with grace, which also built my confidence to speak at the events for the campaign.
