Personal Narrative-Usual Analysis
One Friday afternoon I took my three-year-old son to the park by my house to play. As I was pushing him on the swing, I noticed a woman talking to her daughter in Arabic. I approached her and introduced myself. I found out that she was born in Jordan just like my husband and has only been hear for 5 years. She began to tell me that she had no family here and that her husband would not allow her to make friends with any Americans. I figured this would be a great opportunity to serve. I began by inviting her over my house, offering to watch her daughter, I also cooked her a couple meals and sent them over. I listened as she poured out her heart; she shared how she felt alone here in the United States.
We started going to the gym together and I planned numerous play dates. I finally built up the courage to ask Magdalene if she had any spiritual beliefs. She began to tell me that she was a Muslim but did not practice her religion. I then asked her, to

I had her read the Scriptures Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, John 3:3, John 14:6, Romans 10:9-11, 2 Corinthians 5:11, Revelation 3:20. She had no objections to anything she read which was extremely surprising. I asked her if she wanted to receive the Lord Jesus in her heart. I felt that she wanted to have a relationship with Jesus but she made it clear that she could not. She began to tell me how strict her family is and if she ever was to become a Christian she would fear for her life and the life of her daughter. At that point, I wanted so badly for her to accept Jesus but I understood that this was not the end. I was obedient and the Holy Spirit is not done working in her heart and life. Magdalene allowed me to pray with her. I prayed that the Lord would calm all her fears and fill her with a joy in knowing He alone is God. I plan to continue to pour out Christ’s love through serving and sharing with her. I pray for Magdalene daily and know that the Lord is working in

The first thing Meghan asked was, “Are you one of those Christian people who really believes in God or just one that goes to church on Sunday?” I was surprised at her forwardness but told her that while I go to church on Sunday’s with Matt and my family, I do my best to not just be a “Sunday Christian” and do everything for God’s glory. She was very receptive of my answer but when I inquired to her beliefs, she did not want to discuss them any further. During this, Matthew was very interested in the conversation, but Corey seemed very uncomfortable. He was squirming the entire time and didn’t have much to say after our conversation ended. Corey is not a believer and does not like to discuss his beliefs. Later on, when we were saying goodbye after the movie, I spoke with Meghan again on the topic of beliefs and she gave me her number for us to get together and discuss my faith in more detail. She said that the reason she did not wish to discuss the topic further during our meal was because of Corey. She knew that it made him uncomfortable to talk about it and didn’t want to upset him. However, she was very interested in learning more about becoming a Christian, and allowed me to pray for her before we left.…

After talking to her, I felt that it was time to go back to Chicago. I called my dad, (knowing I haven’t spoke/seen him for many years) and explained to him the situation on how we felt uncomfortable in Detroit.…

I greatly enjoyed this because I was put in an environment where you have to converse with people because I was serving them dinner. It was a lot easier than just walking up to someone and talk about God. Community service is a great way to spread the word of God and evangelize to people. Also because you are around friends and they can always assist you. For the encounter itself I believe it went very well, and maybe I could have been more prepared but I believed I stated a valid point to her.…
