Imagine waking up in your bed early in the morning and having your skin cover in mosquito bites. No matter how hard you try to cover yourself or hide from them they will always find you. You'll be lucky enough to to wake up to find at least one blood sucking mosquito still drinking the last drip of you sweet blood. Sadly, this mosquito made a grave mistake to aggravate a human being who just woke up from his slumber. As I got up I swung my small little hands as fast as I could with the intention to take the life of this little critter. My day has just begun successfully as I got rid of the gruesome critter like every other day in Guyana. Guyana is a country located in South America, yes Guyana not Guiana as many people assume it to be. Guyana is a very rural place and isn’t really that great of a place to lavish in. You’ll be lucky enough to make it across a small bridge without it collapsing and dumping you in the foul-smelling garbage

Where can you say other than that New York City is just simply beautiful in the many aspects it possesses. New York City has about everything I could imagine. There was stores filled of ripped bananas, bright red juicy apples, sweet yellow mangoes, and one that things that I fell in love with was sweet BBQ chips that I could eat all day long. As more and more I journey to New York City I discover something new and new everyday. I found a place fill with the best tasting chicken in town. The chicken was so delicious and so perfectly crafted. As I use my hands to bring the chicken to my face which was still giving off a slight steam from being freshly made I took a bite and every bite I made melted perfectly in my mouth. New York City was like my present day heaven, everything was amazing and the area was very urban area which I have never been to before in my life. New York City has it all food, clothes, toys, games, cars, fancy houses, different ethnicity of people

Phil Robinson is a Philadelphia naïve, at a young age he was introduced to fashion by his father. His father was very strict on presenting yourself in a classy stylish way. Style is in my blood, I've been doing it for years for family, friends, etc. Helping kids is my passion and always has been. I, Ratonhaketon, son of Chieftain Kanensoto, am alive and still enjoying good health and hoping that this may find you all the same. I cannot recall how long it has been since I have seen you all and not a single day has gone by that I have not missed and wondered how you are all doing. I wish I could return home and see you all again, but I cannot as I found a new home and family in this land. Instead, I am embracing this opportunity of addressing you in what the pale ones call a letter as I am so eager to let you know of the many things I have learned in this strange, new world since my departure all those years ago. The only proper way to discuss my journey with you is to start from the very beginning, when I left home.…

1st of all I think Ty Dooley did a great job speaking at the panel and really made look at things from a totally different prospective. Something that I’ve taken away from him during the event is even after we leave this diverse university environment it is up to each and every single one of us to keep the conversations going and regardless of the good and bad going on around us we should never forget about our heritage and background regardless of where that might possible be. Something else that he made me think is that if we choose to forget about history then it would surely repeat itself. I personally will take his advice by not being scared to speak up about certain issues within the university and even a larger community, I also learned…

As you may have recalled I had an interview with ALMACO recently. Following that, last Friday they offered me an internship position for this Summer along with the ability to stay and work shorter week hours while being able to attend school during the Fall semester of 2017. I took some time to really think through this decision and felt like ALMACO was the decision I wanted to go with. This was actually a much harder decision than what it seems to be. I want to make sure that it is crystal clear that HawkeyePedershaab didn’t do anything wrong in this process. The fact of the matter is that I would really like to get another experience under my belt, and along with that the ALMACO offer was a hard one to turn down. I hope that you are understanding…

For most athletes, it takes hard work and effort to become successful; for others it may come natural so they do not have to work as hard. Usain Bolt, who is a 9 times Olympic Champion, has the natural ability to run track. As a result, he is not forced to work as hard as other track athletes such as Yohan Blake. While Blake is still just as successful, he must put in twice the work of Usain to reach his full potential. Like Yohan Blake, I am one of the people who has to put in hard work and effort to reach my full potential.…

As I sat there waiting for my senior to get here, many people talking and bustling, I thought about my questions for him. When Nate showed up we were a little awkward, but we sat down and started talking. There was still a good three minutes until we were going to start the actual interview so we just started to talk. It was so cool to see a senior with similar interests and I felt like I had a great pair for a senior buddy.…

“When I was ten years old, my brother Miguel came back from the U.S. to visit us. When he was ready to leave, he told my mom, ‘Hey, are you going to let Kiko (which was my nickname) come to the U.S., so he can go to school and have an opportunity?’ and my mom turned to me and said, ‘Do you want to go with him?’ Then I looked at her and replied, ‘Do you want me to go?’ and she nodded in approval, so I went into the house, got a backpack, and put three pants, three shirts, and a few other things in there because I didn’t have many belongings. I then went back outside, jumped into the car, and left my mom. I didn’t see my mom again until I was a senior in high school, and a lot took place during those years” (Castellanos).…

The person I am choosing to describe is my best friend, Matt Wotring. We first started talking near the end of July of last year, but didn’t really become friends until we hung out at a mutual friend’s birthday party at the beginning of October. Over the course of the past year, he and I have continued to grow closer and spend as much time together as possible. He has one of those charismatic personalities that is hard to find in the present world. He is very close with all of his family – and believe me, he has a lot of family living nearby – and is probably closer with his cousins than he is with any of his friends. He is currently a senior a Calvary Christian Academy and plans on continuing his education at Frostburg State University, majoring…

There has been many cases in which I have helped an outsider feel welcome. One time in particular is when I played tag with this little boy at church since he was new and no one else played with him. Originally, I was outside eating candy and talking to my friends at church. I noticed that this little boy was standing all alone watching all the other little kids play without him. I thought that maybe he was upset so I went over to him and asked if he wanted the rest of my gummy worms. He seemed nervous at first, but eventually he started talking to me. I learned that he was five years old and he was visiting his grandparents for the weekend. His older brother was outside playing basketball with some of the other older boys at the church, and…

As I look back on the work of past social justice heroes such as, Mohandas Gandhi, Malcolm X, Dorothy Day, and Martin King Jr., and the social justice movements I have grown up to see, such as the LGBT community and the Black Lives Matter movement, I tend to ponder how those individuals and movements were able to make such an impact on society. What were their methods and what tools did they use to get such attention nationally and internationally? I ask these questions because I aspire to help individuals who are facing social injustice by those around them and/or by a higher authority as well. Yet, how can I accomplish this? It’s a matter of looking at what can make me out to be a “hero” of social justice, how I can be a “hero” now as a student at the University of Mount Union, and how I can carry out the knowledge that I’ve been passed down through the university. With these elements pulled together, one can find the answer of what it means to be their own “hero”.…
