Personal Narrative: The Three Witnesses
As I've pondered over the testimonies the three witnesses gave, I am astonished as to why all three of them eventually left the church. You would think that anyone, having the vision they received, would faithfully serve god till the end of their life. I would like to say that if I, myself, had experienced what they did, I would never leave the church. What keeps coming to my mind, is that conversion is a never-ending process. Its a process that uses faith. In order to have faith, we need to extend faith. And without faith in this gospel, we are more easily temped by the advisary. There is probably countless stories, like the three witnesses, where people’s eyes, hearts, and minds have witnessed gods truth. Im sure there is also countless individuals …show more content…
They Went to their death beds testifying that their vision was from god. They testified that the book of mormon was translated by the gift and power of god. That strengthens my own testimony that even though they all fell away from the church, they never denied the book of mormons truth. Even David Whitmer who never rejoined the church, remained faithful to the words that are published in the book of mormons introduction. In an odd way, Its almost even more proof that these men separated from the church and still never denied the …show more content…
I can remember the first time I read the scriptures with real intent. I was so far from the lord so it so It was the first time I had felt the spirit that strongly. I remember that moment so well because the scripture I read and the spirit I felt, influenced me to change my life. I felt gods love for me as I read from the scriptures. I had an overwhelming feeling that I needed to continue reading from this book. I knew that god needed me on his side. It was because of that experience that I knew the book was true. I believe that the book of mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ because I have felt its power. The book has only increased my understanding and brought me closer to Christ. It is truly another testament of Jesus Christ. I continued to know the scriptures were true, as I started to read them every night and saw the difference it made in my day. I also noticed it in the days that I forgot to read. The days that I did not read the scriptures were the days I was easily influenced by the world. I struggled with myself and with my belief in God on the days I didn't read from the scriptures. The days that I did read My scriptures were the days that I felt closer to

Mormonism is the predominant religious tradition of the Latter Day Saint movement of Restorationist Christianity. This movement was founded by Joseph Smith, Jr., in the 1820s. During the 1830s and 1840s, Mormonism gradually distinguished itself from traditional Protestantism. Mormonism today represents the new, non-Protestant faith taught by Smith in the 1840s. Mormonism in itself is its own religion. It has its own beliefs and customs. But it has some connections to other mainstream monotheistic religions. These religions are Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Mormonism shares some commonalities with these religions and some differences.…

In Ohio, the church would prosper through the work of the missionaries there. As the church expanded into Jackson County, Missouri, settlers in the area became alarmed at the rapid influx of Mormons into the area. This led up to vicious attacks on the Mormons, and the expulsion of the Mormons from Missouri. Following he attacks and the expulsion of the Mormons from Missouri, Joseph Smith would lead the church members to found a new settlement in Nauvoo, Illinois. Tensions would eventually boil over and Joseph Smith along with his brother Hyrum would be killed by a mob near Carthage, Illinois in 1844 (Baugh, 2000). Brigham Young would emerge as the leader of the later known Latter Day Saints and he would go on to lead these pioneers to the Utah Territory. A provincial government under Young would be established in the Utah…

The Mormons religious practice has always put them in a suspicious or outcast position. In the Mormon Faith, the Bible is considered the word of God, but Mormons also believe God did not stop speaking and that he also spoke to Joseph Smith, the founder of Latter-Day Saint. Smith encounter with God is said to have happened when he was a young man in upstate New York. Smith claimed a Colum of light came to his room then a glowing angle informed him about the book of Mormon. The Angel led him to the nearby hill where he dug up a pair of golden plates. But he was forbidden to take the plate’s home until he is married with children. After he married, he and his wife returned to the hill, dug the golden plates from which he translated the book of Mormon. There were different version of his story, one was him going to the hill for forgiveness and later became more colorful. The final version came in 1838, which involves God, Father and Son, it question if Joseph was just building a story to intensify his empowerment.…

“Some brought what they could and what they believed would work. Stuffed in apron pockets, strung around their necks, lying in the space between their breasts. Others brought Christian faith – as shield and sword. Most brought a little of both. They had no idea what they would do once they got there. They just started out, walked down Bluestone Road and came together at the agree-upon time,” (303).…

Over the centuries since Jesus walked on the earth, there have been many beliefs and doctrines that have been conceived. Many of these have not established their foundation in God’s Word, the Bible. This has caused a descent from how Christ initially established the Church those many years ago. Many religions today would claim to be the true Church of Jesus Christ. However, most have turned from Bible truths, and are therefore not the true Church of Jesus Christ. The Mormon Church is not the Church of Jesus Christ because they do not hold to the beliefs that the Bible is the complete, inerrant Word of God, salvation is by faith alone, and Jesus Christ has always been God.…

“On the table, side by side
The Book of Mormon and the TV Guide
One is well worn and cherished with pride;
Not the Book of Mormon, but the TV guide,
One is used daily to help folks decide,
No, not the Book of Mormon, but the TV Guide.
As the pages are turned, what shall they see?
Oh, what does it matter, turn on the TV!
So they opened the book from which they confide,
No, not the Book of Mormon, but the TV guide.
The word of God is seldom read
Maybe a verse or two before they fall into bed,
Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be,
Not from reading the scriptures, but from watching TV.
So back to the table, side by side
The Book of Mormon, and the TV Guide
The Plan of Salvation is full and free
But is found in the Book of Mormon, not on the TV.”…

In chapter 12, the key event to me was when Claudia and Finn talked to each other through the keys. I felt many emotions when reading their interaction one of them being happy. I felt happy when they talked to each other because it was a turning point in the story in my opinion. I also felt surprised because at first, I thought by having two keys, there would be a lock that would need both keys to hear and speak to each other. I also felt confused by the way they conversed; How could they now hear each other but not before. I think by having one key being touched, the other key can hear because on page 153 Claudia says she breathed and rubbed on the key making it warm and on page 154 Finn says when he touches the key it's warm.I like the way the author wrote the scene from both perspectives, it gave us the readers a clearer understanding of how both Finn and Claudia felt. I also like how the author described the way both keys affect each other and have a "key" connection.…

There has been many cases in which I have helped an outsider feel welcome. One time in particular is when I played tag with this little boy at church since he was new and no one else played with him. Originally, I was outside eating candy and talking to my friends at church. I noticed that this little boy was standing all alone watching all the other little kids play without him. I thought that maybe he was upset so I went over to him and asked if he wanted the rest of my gummy worms. He seemed nervous at first, but eventually he started talking to me. I learned that he was five years old and he was visiting his grandparents for the weekend. His older brother was outside playing basketball with some of the other older boys at the church, and…
