While Staff Sergeant Monti was leading a mission aimed at gathering intelligence and directing fire against the enemy, his 16-man patrol was attacked by as many as 50 enemy fighters. On the verge of being overrun, Staff Sergeant Monti quickly directed his men to set up a defensive position behind a rock formation. He then called for indirect fire support, accurately targeting the rounds upon the enemy who had closed to within 50 meters of his position. While still directing fire, Staff Sergeant Monti personally engaged the enemy with his rifle and a grenade, successfully disrupting an attempt to flank his patrol. Staff Sergeant Monti then realized that one of his Soldiers was lying wounded in the open ground between the advancing enemy and the patrol’s position.…

In Liam O’Flaherty’s short story “The Sniper”, the Republican sniper does feel remorse for killing his enemy. Reason being, the text states, “The sniper looked at his enemy falling and shuddered. The lust of battle died in him. He became bitten by remorse.” This illustrates that after the excitement of killing his enemy passed, the sniper, realizing what he had done, became disgusted and started to feel pangs of regret at the sight of the dead man’s mangled body. Further, it also shows the effect killing the enemy sniper had on him, repeating the fact that the sniper was angry at what he had done, as it says in the text that, “...he began to gibber to himself, cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody.” Lastly, he physically shows…

The book I chose for the summative essay assignment was “American Sniper” by Chris Kyle. This book is about the courageous and thrilling memoir of the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history. With over 100 documented kills during his four tours of duty, Chris Kyle has shed light on the dangerous brave life of a sniper. During his four tours of duty in the Iraq war he has come close to death and saved countless lives. He changed a lot from just being a country boy and became what he describes as a man. The war really changed his perspective on his civilian life. The significance of the Iraq war was to help free the Iraqi civilians of their dictator, Saddam Hussein, and the radical Islamic insurgents who terrorized the Iraqi’s after the fall of Saddam Hussein.…

To be a successful soldier in war, one must endure extensive training in various situations, including but not limited to, medical practice, survival skills, and strategies. This is of utmost importance because without proper instruction or experience, a soldier could potentially die in crossfire. It can be challenged that in his historical short story The Sniper, Liam O’Flaherty utilizes characterization to imply that the Republican sniper has qualities of an experienced soldier in survival skills and combat training to show his successful survival and defeat of his enemy sniper.…

I was surprised at my findings during the shooter game. The armed I had WHITE-24 and BLACK-20 and the unarmed I had WHITE-22 and BLACK-15. With my own heuristics I feel that I have a quick judgement, because the game made me think quick to observe which people was good or bad. When I got them wrong it took away points from the average, but it taught me to be more observative to the people that popped up on the screen. Overall, I had to figure which people are dangerous and which ones was not dangerous which I needed to survive throughout the game.…

I want to be a soldier in the army once I have graduated from school. The book ‘American Sniper’ is about Chris Kyle and his life throughout the army and his time at home in Texas. I will be starting off at a higher end of the ranks as Chris enlisted through a recruiting center, I will be going through officer training to achieve leadership skills, and to enable a backup for myself if I was to ever have a serious accident at some point. I wanted to read this book for multiple reasons. One reason is that I have never heard of Chris Kyle before since the movie had begun being filmed, and when I found out there was a book I thought it would be really interesting, and it has been so far. The main reason now that I am still reading it is because now that I know what he has gone through within the army and the war on terror, I wanted it to be something like a guide for myself to get an idea of what basic training will be like, how war will affect me as a person and what is involved in being a soldier. I have always respected and admired the concept of a sniper in warfare. The ability to…

The book, American Sniper, by Chris Kyle is an informative story of the life of Kyle and the delimas he went through in and out of the war. Kyle was extremely effective in showing the reader what the life of a Navy SEAL was like, both what he went through while at war and the controversies he went through out of service. The authors main point of writing the novel is to show everyone a SEAL’s point of view of war, instead of the “propaganda” seen on the news. Kyle shows the main points of the book by establishing his own credibility, showing the purpose behind novel, and defining his tone toward the subject.…

Every wondered how much a title or name can mean to someone? There is almost always a larger meaning behind the name of a company or the title of a book. Dragons, witches, princesses and knights. These are the imaginary friends in so many children's lives. For young adults, those fairy tale characters give way to darker characters and more realistic situations. However, what do they all have in common? They live in short stories Two stories that are interesting are "The Sniper" by Liam O'Flaherty and " A Sound of Thunder" Ray Bradbury. Both center around grow men have guns to kill something. The Sniper in "The Sniper" has part of the army trying to take out enemies. Eckels is trying to hunt a T.rex back in the past to win $10,000. While there are some obvious similarities, both authors approach these stories, specifically the characters, tone and point of view, in different ways.…

The morning my alarm went off for my EDHE class my mind instantly went to skipping. Even though my dorm is not even a minute away from the Kinard building, where class was being held this particular morning, the monstrous hill that I had to climb to get there made it a breathtaking five minute walk. I finally found the courage to roll out of bed and began my journey to class to hear about that day's lesson, which is a lesson that will stick with me for the rest of my life.…

It's Christmas 2014, my Dad and I went to go shooting with my Cousins, my Uncle, and my Grandpa. He brought his AR (Assault Rifle), .45, .09, and his AS 12 gauge (Assault Shotgun). I brought my BB gun too. The boys shot off a couple of rounds with the .45, the .09, and the AR. Grandpa taught me how to shoot a BB gun first. Then my Dad let me shoot the .09. The .09 goes like this BAM…… BAM…….. BAM it is semi automatic, that means it is not rapid fire. I was pretty good with the .09. Next I used the .45 and it went all downhill from there. The .45 almost flew out of my hand, it went BAM… BAM… BAM... BAM, it had a good kickback to it. The .45 also was a semi automatic.…

I was standing on the roof of a building watching and being a look for the democrat party in Dublin, Ireland. I was on look out as sniper so I could protect our land from the Republican Party and the snipers that they may send out to eliminate us so they could be free from our party. One night when I was on watch I was thinking to myself if this would be the last time I would live to see another day. I was thinking really hard to myself while walking across the roof tops when my eye caught a slight glimpse from the other side of the roof tops a bright little flash. I got a little scared at first and then as fast I could raise my rifle at the other side of the street and aimed at where I saw the flash. I took a deep breath and then let it out a little nervously. I did the same thing again and took a shot. Crack! It broke the…
