Personal Narrative: The Game Of The Tournament
It wasn’t the ideal weather to finish a baseball game, especially not an elimination game. It was a humid, cloudy afternoon in Bourbonnais, IL during the month of July. The winds were strong and throwing dirt and dust everywhere. The infield was hard and dry with a light colored dirt that was blinding when the sun came out. In the outfield, it wasn’t much better, the grass was long and patchy. These conditions made it hard to concentrate and play. This was the semi-finals game of the tournament and it was single elimination. My team and I had been playing very well all tournament and were undefeated, so we were pretty confident that we were going to beat this team easily since they had won 2 games and lost 2 and make it to the championship game. When the …show more content…
They found a field that we could play on that was 45 minutes away; we drove over there, and changed our uniforms to dry ones. We were rushed to warm up again since we had to start the game as soon as possible because the time-limit for the game was running out and we only had 27 minutes left to play. I ran out on the field, ran to center field and back, stretched quickly, and threw with a partner to warm my arm up. Then we started the game; since it was the bottom of the sixth inning and we were the home team, we started up to bat. This break that we got changing fields completely changed our attitude. Now everybody was up and in the game, cheering for everybody trying to come back into the game. They put in a new pitcher that I didn’t like at all. I didn’t know him but he carried himself in a way that perceived him as very cocky and thought he was better than everybody. We had another bad offensive inning and didn’t score any runs. In the field, we got 3 outs quickly and ran back in so we could hit again. It was now the bottom of the 7th inning. The last inning. I was

Over the weekend I had a huge Soccer Tournament in Grey. We had two games on Saturday and one game Sunday. In the first game we played a Cumberland club team and beat them 2-0. In our second game we played Westbrook and won 5-0. So at the end of the day we were 2-0 and in first for our bracket, but winslow was also 2-0. Going into Sunday we had to beat South Portland by two goals and not let them score. We ended up tying them 3-3 and we got eliminated because Winslow beat Westbrook 4-0.…

Then we got down to business and took the field. Keegan started pitching the ball to me. Soon enough the ump said “balls in”, which meant I had to throw the ball down to second base, so the game could start. It was a pretty quick inning because nobody could get a hit off of Keegan.…

And to finish up that inning we just got a couple ground balls and we turned a double play. And for the next few innings nothing really happened both teams were struggling to hit. Now it's like the 5th inning and we have the top of our hitting order up so we had:Liam,Luke,Ryan,Alex as our 1,2,3,4 hitters. And we got a rally going and we scored a couple runs so at this point the score is 5-1 and we have the lead so then I go into the 6th inning to pitch and I can only do ⅔ of the inning so than Ryan comes in and pitches and to finish out the 7th Alex pitches a 3 strikeout inning. So the game was over and the presedent of the league gave me the game ball to keep and bring home and everyone on our team got a trophy to take home after we won we were all so happy that we won the championship because it was or a lot of people the first time they won something. The…

It is the bottom of the ninth and I was last at bat. The ball came zooming towards me at a high rate of speed. The vibration of metal meeting leather rang out in my hands. No hesitation was made. I dropped the bat and ran as fast as I could to first base. My coach was telling me to keep going because the ball was fumbled. I rounded third base and my coach motioned for me to take it home with a slide. Down I went. Dust was flying. The crowd was standing and cheering loudly as the referee motions and yells, “Safe!” All I heard was screaming as dust still loomed the air around me. I could manage to see my team going wild, jumping, and screaming. Everyone seemed to be celebrating except me.…

I have experienced many failures in my life but one stuck out to me more than others. I have wrestled since I was 8 years old. Through all my matches I have wrestled in my life, something hit me. My sophomore year I worked really hard to make it to the state tournament. Going into the sectional tournament, my record was 19-3. I had a by the first round which put me in the semi-finals. After winning my semi-finals match 12-4, that put me in the finals against a kid I wrestled 3 times before this. He pinned me the first time we wrestled and the next 2 times we wrestled I pinned him. Going into this match I had a lot of confidence because I knew I could win. I underestimated the want he had to win. He surprised me and came out strong. My sectional…

I had struck out most of the up-bats before that (I wasn’t necessarily the best baseball player back then). However, I was completely ready for the ball to come at me. I grasped the handle of the cold, hard bat tightly. The ball flew right over the home plate, and I hit it with all the power I had left in my body. The ball went soaring, looking like a white bird migrating south. The ball landed unquestionably far into right field, and as soon as it did, I started to sprint to first base. I decided that it would be safe to round to second base. I had already been past second base when the player playing right field got to the ball. I made it to third base, wondering if I could sprint home. I decided to wait, but I clearly could have ran to home plate. It took a while to process what had just happened. I had just hit a two-run RBI triple! I hadn’t even noticed the two runners on base come home, since I was really in the moment. Our team got through the inning, and it was my turn to pitch. This was only the second time that I had ever pitched while playing baseball! I ran out to the mound, and I started to warm up with the catcher. I rolled the hard, slightly dirty ball in my fingertips. “You can do this, Nathan,” I thought to myself nervously. “The whole team is relying on you.” After a bit of time, I was able to strike out two players and get a groundout to end the…

Everyone was watching nervously at the stands. All my teammates were eager yet nervous. I was up next and my coach calls me up to bat with two girls on first and third base. My legs were shaking as I went up to the plate. The score is eight to ten with two outs and the pressures on me. He explained to me what I had bring everyone to home plate. Ting! My bat struck the ball and it landed all the way in the outfield. All of my other teammates were cheering inside the dugout. All three of us sprinted as fast as we could to home plate. They both made it to home and I slide onto home plate. I made the home run! Everyone in the dugout came running onto the field with huge smile on their faces chanting, “We won! We won!” My coach shook my helmet and patted my back. Coach was so excited and happy for us. He was the one who made this team so successful.…
