Personal Narrative: The Early College

The Early College was the push I needed to better myself as a student and as a person. In high school, I received stellar grades and test scores without trying. I never needed to study, and I did the bare minimum for a majority of my assignments. Occasionally, I would find an assignment that I loved and go way beyond the requirement. I was a teacher favorite, but I was disliked by other students because I was a bit of a show off with my intelligence. I never needed time management skills, so I never developed them. In high school, I was so nervous about driving that I did not receive my license until six months after my birthday. Even after I had my license, I would create reasons to have my parents transport me places. Now I am able to drive comfortably. I also have learned how to pump gas and use a credit card. Perhaps my biggest change in society is my understanding of how people view me. I can control the way people perceive me, and it is important to present the best version of myself. While this is not specifically related to TEC, I am now a much healthier person. I used to be a very picky and unhealthy eater. Over the course of this year, I have learned to try new foods and be healthier about what I eat. I can switch out some junk food for healthier alternatives, and I have finally learned how to fry an egg and cook an omelet. I now exercise on my own, something I had never previously done out of structured sports. I have even started tracking my steps per day order to be healthier. I have become more responsible for my family too. I make sure to check on my grandmother and help her with chores around the house. Previously, I had only talked to her, or worked on the jigsaw puzzle she kept under the couch for me. I have gained responsibility for my education also. I am now actively researching and planning for college. Part of this is saving for future costs. I used to put away 25% of my money for education, but I have increased this number to 50% because I want to be prepared to cover the costs of an education. Some of my money responsibility has also been allowing myself to spend money on wants, as long as I know I am not wasting cash. I have taken more responsibility for my health, my family, and my
