Personal Narrative: The Competitiveness Of Football
On September 2nd, 2006, I stepped out onto the gridiron for my first ever football game. Now, I feel like football and I are inseparable. I watch football every Sunday and Saturday. The first organized sports team that I’ve ever played on was the Bloomington Cardinals in my hometown’s Junior Football League. I even have a collection of football cards in my room. Football is one of the biggest parts of my life.
The competitiveness of football is one of the reasons that football is my most important extracurricular activity. Football is the reason I’m a competitive person. I always would try hard in order to be the best on all of my football teams. I wanted to come out on top of all other adversaries. The competition between different teams made the game more enjoyable. During my senior year, we were up against Bloomington, our cross town rivals. During that week, my team worked harder than we have against any other opponent. We wanted it so badly, that when we won, it was one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever had. Every victory that I’ve had in football makes hfykff.

My football team went on a three game losing streak during my senior year. We were 3-3, so if we lost another game, my Normal West Wildcat football team would miss the playoffs for the first time in six years. Two of our starters were suspended for the rest of our season, and our coaches fought frequently throughout the year. Many teams would have crumpled in our circumstances. Instead, all the other seniors and I refused to let our season go down the drain. We worked vigorously to be at our best for our final three games. My football team ended up being undefeated in our last three games, including a win over the second ranked team in the 5A division. That valiant effort showed me that being optimistic can lead to better results in rough

Likewise, perfection and happiness do not always come from winning or having money. The most important lesson I have learned this season was that being perfect is not about the scoreboard. It's not about winning. It's about you and your relationship with yourself, your family and your friends. Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didn’t let them down because you did everything you could – that there wasn’t one more thing you could have done, and when the going got tough, you did not put your head down and give up, but you fought on. Winning is not about who hits the hardest, but who can get hit hard and still keep moving forward. Applying that mentality to my life has made me a more successful and happy person regardless of whether or not I win, lose, triumph or fail. Life and football are very similar, both have their ups and downs, and your ability to keep a level head and never get too high or too low is what makes you a winner. The experience of my last year of high school football was the culmination of all the lessons I have learned through out my life, on and off the…

It was a frigid, windy, Friday night in October. The only light was the bright and beaming illumination of the stadium lights projecting over the soccer field. The bleachers were full, it seemed as if the whole school was there, and as a freshman with anxiety, it made it hard to cope with the fact, that I was going to be a starter for the varsity soccer team.…

I am very good at football. It is one of my favorite sports. When I was younger, I decided to try football. So then ever since, I kept playing football every year. Also every year I got better and better. I got lots of tackles in football. This one time a player was running to the touchdown line and I ran as fast as I can to get to the player. Finally I caught up to him and I tackled the player before he could reach to get a touchdown. That’s what helped me stay in football.…

I would go to the football field and go into the box announcers seat with a crossbow, bottle of water, protein bar, boards and a walkie talkie to respond to the other look outs. It all started at ninth street with some friends of mine John and I started recruiting some people to come play football with us. I honestly didn’t know I had a pretty decent arm. I originally was going to start practicing to play wide receiver instead of quarterback. At the time Odell Beckham Jr. ( wide receiver for the New York Giants ) was extremely explosive and dynamic on offense. Seeing him blow up on offense made me want to try out for wide receiver. But somehow John convinced me to play quarterback.…

The pain my legs felt after practices was an indescribable feeling of hurt and success after a good practice. And that feeling still sticks to this day. My soccer career started as soon as I could walk, but somehow I still wasn’t very good at it at the age of 13. You'd assume ten years of practice and a sister who'd been the mvp of her high school team would have rubbed off on me, but that wasn’t the case. That is to say, I wasn't absolutely pitiful. I was pretty quick, and I could get a good foot on the ball about four times out of ten.…
