Personal Narrative: The Closet Door
Tired, with a headache, and not in capacity to maintain my eyes open, I remembered next day was Halloween, which was the last thing I remembered before falling sleep. I woke up and saw the watch, it was three o’clock a.m. I listened to a weird sound that came from my closet; it was soft, but I could hear it like a rat scratching the walls. Intrigued about what was happening, I woke up and walked towards the closet. The sound gave me the chills.
My room was dark, like a dark hole. I wasn’t sure about opening the closet. I was thrilled to know what was behind, but scared about finding something I might regret. I put my hand on the doorknob and slowly opened it. The closet door made a worse sound than the one that was coming from it.

Thirsty I made my way towards the kitchen to pour myself a glass of Cranberry Pomegranate juice. Sitting around what’s left of the dining room table one of its hinges obliterated merely three table legs left as a support. A branch from the oak tree near the kitchen window kept tapping against the walls and windows as the wind blows. This branch at night when the murky moonlight blooms against the massive tree meticulously resemble an oversized man with a knife trying to break into the house. I often dreaded coming down the stairs for a cup of water or juice late at night when the lights were off. The terrified image and screeches sound on the window always send me scurrying right back to my room and ducking under the covers trembling for dear…

The past few days at placement have been an emotional rollercoaster for me. In past few days I experienced tears of joy, and tears of sadness, one moment I was happy with a survivor’s growth and the next moment I was heartbroken to hear the struggles they faced to be where they are at now. At one point I felt like I had no control over my emotions and it was my emotions that had control over me. I felt so weak when I had no control, but I also felt good and free to let all my emotions out. The past few days at placement made me reevaluate certain things in my personal life, and changed my perception for a lot of things.…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…

Its dark and so silent that I could hear a penny drop. However, there’s screeching every few minutes. I can feel a person staring at me but there isn’t anyone there. The lights flicker and I hear a woman scream down stairs. Echoing in the dead silent house in less than a minute. I feel this warmness rush through me and my heart rate has accelerated. My breathing is heavy and I am trying to quietly move down stairs. I feel my hand become saturated with something goopy. My eyes widen as there is a man with dark clothing and something covering his face. He has a knife with bright red fresh blood at the end of the stairs. “You are next,” his deep crisp voice states as he walks out the door. I am unable to move. I am shaking and my chest has this overwhelming pressure. I fall and go blank.…

As soon as I stepped out of my front door, what I saw was horrible. I looked at my car which was on the other side of the street. As soon as I saw it, it looked as if someone dumped a can of water and stuck it in a freezer. It was crazy what had happened to the town, I was headed to the grocery store and I saw a gigantic wave go over the beach and all of a sudden it just froze. It was like a breeze of freezing winter hit it in mid-air. People looked up and started running I even saw a guy just throw his medal detector across the beach. It stopped me in my tracks, so I ran back inside after I hesitated a while. I saw cars flying by and people running to their houses. While I’m watching out the front door window it all just turned to slush, and…

I awoke in a dark, stale room. The only light was coming from where a strip of cardboard had been torn from the board that covered the window. I saw trees outside, so I guessed that I probably wasn’t in my little desert hometown. The next thing I noticed was the fact that one of my hands was chained to a horrible excuse for a bed, but I guess that could have been expected, considering the circumstances. I exhaled sharply and closed my eyes; the sparse sunlight suddenly felt too bright to my already dimmed eyes. Soon, I heard several bolts rattling on the outside of the wall where I guessed the door was (it was too dark to see anything on that side of the room). The door opened just enough to fit a small tin tray attached to a skateboard. The hand that pushed the skateboard, I had a chance to notice in the dim light from the other side of the door, was a young woman’s hand. Odd.…

Click! I heard the door slide open, hitting the wall with a soft thud. I opened my eyes and saw the shadow of a dark figure holding a knife in the doorway. I pulled the blanket up to cover my face, leaving only my eyes uncovered. I heard the creak of a floorboard, and the shadow advanced towards me, a silent murderer. I slid completely underneath the blankets, willing myself to wake up from this nightmare. I heard the sound of another footstep, whipped of the blanket, and screamed at the top of my lungs.…

The air was beginning to cool. The street was dark and quiet. I looked at the houses and realised that I couldn’t see any lights on in any of them. I continued to let my legs guide my directions. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a light from an apartment shining through the navy blue curtains of the window. “Click, clack, click,” I thought I heard footsteps. Whoosh! I turned around and no one was there. “I’m being paranoid. Why would anyone follow me?” I thought to myself. I had an eerie feeling about those footsteps. Something wasn’t right. I smelt a strong French perfume that intoxicated the air.…

The house seemed extremely old and weird packages and papers were scattered all over the place. I walked toward the room with the lights turned on, for some reason I was drawn toward it like a magnet. I was immediately attracted to glass containers filled with mysterious liquids, as I picked up the jar, the jar instantly suddenly from my hand and shattered all over the floor. I was instantaneously knocked out by the strange fluids from the jar.…

Midnight, 14 June 2012. I was awake in my bed, excited or maybe depressed. I did not know. The night seemed weird, because it was much darker than before and I heard the owls hoot louder. They seemed hungry. Hungry for meat and for love. Every time I closed my eyes, I would see a thin light pass by and I opened it at my highest to identify what it was. I missed it each time. What was it? When sunrise grew closer, I heard weird thuds that pierced my ear deeply. What on earth was it? Was it somebody playing the flute? Was it someone under my bed? Was there anybody present in my room? I didn’t know. I stayed paralyzed in my bed. Still in fright. My eyes wide open, despite my weariness. I was excited for tomorrow because it was my birthday and that the day would be rather hectic. Maybe I was too excited that I became a subject to the things around me. Still, there was more terror within me. What did they show? Suddenly, I fell into a restless sleep.…

Finally it was it the end of the year holidays and my family and my sister Aaeza and I were gone to a farmhouse that we had rented to spend a few days. As we reached there we all unpacked our bags and got a little rest because the journey from our house to the farmhouse was about an 8 hour drive. After we had eaten dinner we all watch a movie together called The Conjuring. It was such a scary and frightening movie that I told my sister to sleep with me. I and my sister got a room with two single beds. For a while I and my sister talked and slowly we went to sleep. About in the middle of the night I heard a really freaky HOWL but I was so much in sleep I thought I was dreaming but just after a little while a heard another noise and this time I realised I wasn’t dreaming at once I could hear two different sounds like KNOCK KNOCK and DING DONG at once and the thing that made me more sure about it was because I wasn’t the only one hearing the noises it was Aaeza as well she told me she could hear the same noises as me. We make our selves not feel scared we were both telling each other that it’s probably the wind. So we both tried going back to sleep. Out of nowhere we heard our room door BAM open against our wall. The really irritating thing was that it was only me and Aaeza hearing the noises everyone else was asleep. So me and Aaeza got up to see what made the door bang and as soon as we got near the door I heard a repeatedly sound happening CHRUNCH, CHRUNCH CHRUNCH. We started shivering even though there was nothing it sight it was just all the scary noises. As soon as we reached the door we heard a loud CLAP and just after that we heard the engine start VROOM. Just after a few minutes the engine stopped and everywhere it was dead silence and we couldn’t hear even one sound. Just as we calmed ourselves down and went downstairs to get a drink we heard we heard two different types of sounds repeating after each other ROOF ROOF, MEOW, ROOF…
