Personal Narrative: Surfing In Hawaii
Surfing in Hawaii One of the most memorable moments in my life would be surfing on the beaches of O’ahu, which is a part of the Hawaiian Islands. It was the best experience of my seven day vacation to Hawaii, back in 2008. Luckily, I was able to go surfing three out of the seven days my family spent in Hawaii. The whole idea was my dad’s. He was the one that wanted to go surfing, but for only one day. Thi0s idea did not last, after the first day of excitement; my family agreed that we had to do that at least one more time before we head back to the brutal winter of Wisconsin. The Hawaiians that owned the surfboard rental shop did not just give anybody a board and said to go have fun. First my family had to take an instruction class. The instruction class was done on the warm sand, just feet from the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. This class lasted about a half hour, and about fifteen people were there, including my family of four. The instructor gave the class every single detail known about surfing, at …show more content…
Standing on top of a long narrow board, knees slightly bend, looking off into the distance of the beautiful coast of Hawaii. The wind runs through my wet hair, all of my worries disappear, and then I realize that I am thousands of miles away from my small house in southern Wisconsin. I realize how beautiful this state really is, and I miss it, I already miss the place where I currently am. I do not want leave, but then I notice the space between me and the shore is getting smaller. It is now time to jump into the ocean. I take one last look at the beach, close my eyes, and leap into the air, as I through my arms back. Then there is that spilt second, when all you are doing is falling, falling into the ocean almost in slow motion. Slowly I feel the warm water touch my feet, and rise up my body until I am completely submerged. I swim back to the surface, grab my board, and do it all over

I have spent days in the Hawaiian Islands educating Hawaiians about Christianity and it is no vacation. I have grown taller from when you have last seen me, but I do look very different. My hair is now a light brown from the exposure of the scorching sun, my body has become frail and scrawny from the lack of food and nutrients on my journey, and my attitude towards events has changed and I am more aware and sensitive to my peers aboard the ship. I have suffered sea sickness and have witnessed many deaths while sailing to the island, either from the lack of food or health. Here in the Hawaiian islands isn’t all that bad though. I have met many friendly Hawaiians and we are slowly starting to understand each other. However, aside from the welcoming Hawaiians, the scenery is something that is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I could have spent my whole day here with my hands and feet engulfed into the grainy sand while watching the sparkling, blue…

I hope everything has been fine back in China.…

The art of wave riding (‘he'enalu’, in old Hawaiian) was practiced in many coastal locations around the tropics among Pacific Islanders. "He'e" means to go from a solid to a liquid and "nalu" means surfing motion of a wave. This stand-up pastime of surfing came to its climax in Hawaii not only because of its coast having warm water and constant waves but Hawaiians are innately ocean people. Traditionally surfing prowess gained you social rank and power politically in the village. Commoners could only raise their social standing by proving their skills and bravery in the waves on the lower-grade boards they surfed with. The man who was the finest surfer became the Ali’i (royal) of the tribe and so was given a surfboard made from the finest tree. There were surf chants, board making rituals and other native sacred acts. ‘’Hawaiians sang and chanted legendary stories of love matches made and broken in the surf, of lives risked and of heroic ocean deeds by chiefs at the peak of the Sport of Kings’’ (Marcus, 2007)..…

I first started coming to Ventura in the 1970’s when my Aunt and Uncle lived here and my Aunt owned a Beauty Shop on the corner of Seaward and Pierpont. I moved here in 1988. My 2 boys and I have camped and surfed all up and down the California coastline from San Luis Obispo to San Diego. I moved away for a while and then moved back home a couple of years ago and started surfing again. Surfing is like riding a bike, once you learn you will never forget…

My family lived on Orcas Island for ten years, and now I am free. The island, though beautiful, felt tiny and far away from everywhere important. A majority of my days in high school I willed myself through classes by filling notebooks with drawings of space stations and birds. The only two activities that I really enjoyed were Art Club, which I did for three years, and Yearbook Club, which I did for two. These activities were the only real sense of accomplishment during my time on the island. A terrible high school math experience set me up for a belief that I did not have the brains for math or science, and in junior and senior year of high school my online running start classes combined horribly with this lack of confidence in my academic…

For the 4th of July, my family is going to Hawaii this summer. We will celebrate my mom's 40th birthday and my grandma’s 70th birthday. I have never been to Hawaii before in my life, so I'm really thrilled. We are staying at the Honua Kai Resort on Kaanapali Beach in Maui for a week. We are also going with my mom's parents and my Aunt Jaime and Uncle Travis. Our condo on the beach is a three bedroom, three bathroom layout. It's going to be really spacious with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. I am most looking forward to snorkeling because I've never gone before, and I’ll try to see some sea turtles. Hopefully, I won't run into any sharks. I'm sure we will do a lot of other fun things as a family, too.…

If I could attain my online education from anywhere in the earth I would have to choose Hawaii. I have never visited Hawaii, but I have always wanted to travel there. I would balance my time living there by first exploring at what all Hawaii has to offer. Such as the beach and all of the attractions. I would also try and get all of my assignments and reading done ahead of time so I would have more time to explore. When I first arrive there this is what I would primarily do until I was more familiarized with the area in which I would be staying. An average day for me in Hawaii would be first waking up and making a glorious breakfast. Then hitting the beach to go swimming and tanning followed by a nap. I would then go back home and log on to…

Imagine leaving your house on the way to Hawaii. When we got to the airport I met this girl around my age and we became friends until we had to leave. It was a long flight but when we landed in Honalulu the pilot let me sit in the cockpit because I was the only kid on the flight. We checked in at the Waikiki Banyan for five nights. Later that night we went to the Luau which is a group of Hawaiian woman dress in grass skirts and dance at the beach. The next day we woke up pretty early to see all the wonderful tourist sight like memorials, antique stores, and any other cool extractions you can think of. Then we went swimming and later that night we went to the Luau. The second day, also the most exciting of them all, we went and swam with…
