The only thing that pushed him to do this was that his dad was a four time Olympic gold medalist in running.

His parents nerves were racing just as much as his. He took his keys and jumped in the car and started toward the race. He got his number and headed toward the starting line. The gun went off and so did the runners. Faster and faster Evan got as the race

Who could've thought moving states could cause such a change? I never knew it could… this much. As the for sale was ripped out of my yard, we returned back into my previous house. This was the day we moved to hot and big Texas. We hauled all our boxes, big and small, short and tall, into the moving truck. “Let's go,” my mom yelled. We started our journey to Texas, and I could already feel sorrow in my heart.…

Although I have completed many hours of volunteer work in an effort to improve the bad conditions in the city, I feel as if I have not done enough. Throughout my life, I have had to make many choices. Some have been quite simple such as, whether to have a cookie or ice cream, or quite difficult such as, trying to decide where I wanted to go to college. All these choices, big or small, have made me who I am today. Certain choices have taught me lessons about what not to do in life, while other choices have made me grow stronger in my moral character. One such choice was whether or not to take part in my church’s mission trip called Impact Virginia. I had the choice between spending a week of my summer relaxing at home, or outside working on houses for people in need. I can honestly say at that time it was a difficult choice. I had never gone on a mission trip, so I had never known how…

Growing up in a very horrid environment can often be too influential to the point where it drives much of the youth, like myself, to ignore their dreams. However, I am an exception of this situation. I have primarily grown up in the urban area of Detroit, Michigan with many negative influences surrounding myself and others. Constant violence and crimes being committed was becoming normal for the east side of Detroit, in which I was living. It is clear to see that no child would be able to have a positive, effective future being near all of that commotion. Fortunately, my family and I were able to escape those particular troubles and move to a place where the community was more welcoming and beneficial. Aside from the general living conditions,…

It seemed like it was a good day. They announced that my race and my dad’s race was starting soon. so we went to the starting corral. My sister was on the wood structure by the announcers and the finish line. My Dad’s race had just started and he was in first place the whole time. “Pete Kraemer in the front.” Soon, we lined up with our tires against the start gate. “Five, four, three, two, one, Go Go Go!” The announcer screeched. I pulled in front in the first two jumps… BAHM!!! I landed with my tire sideways and I flew off and got run over by bikes like I was part of the ramp. I felt something chalky in my mouth. a nasty taste shot through my mouth that I think was dirt. Soon after, their had been a throbbing pain in my side for days and it felt as if I was hit by a truck. “Are you ok,” I heard.…

It was a hot July day in California the flies were thicker than Midwest humidity. I was suited up in a full bodied fire retardant jump suit, gloves, race shoes, neck roll and a helmet, happier than a five year old’s Christmas morning. As the sweat dripped down my back and the sun beat on the top of my helmet making the top of my head feel like it was going to catch fire. By this point my smile was the size of Texas. The crowd bustled around and cheered for the preliminary races, the music blasted between the commentator’s recaps and I stood proudly outside of the door of my race car, my purple and white ole’ number 77. Two hundred and twenty-two hours of determination and fantasizing about this very day, my first race.…
