Personal Narrative: Reducing My Ecological Footprint
In order to reduce my ecological footprint, I can use public transportation one more day per week rather than driving to the local stores and restaurants I frequent. Not only will it save me money on gas, but it also lead to less carbon emissions that produce and cause harm to the Earth. I can also fly less. I tend to fly to near destinations, like Massachusetts and the Carolinas. I think it could more fun if I took a road trip with family or friends or even take the Amtrak train. Last but not least, I will purchase products that are produced organically or with less packaging. Both produce just about the same kind of quality without having to use the needless materials that is mostly thrown away rather than recycled.

I've never been an "outdoors" experience kind of person. Maybe, it's because I'm very sedentary and prefer to stay inside to read and enjoy tranquility. I avoid all types of chaos and crowded places. Nevertheless, my visit to the Camuy River Cave Park (back in 2004) was refreshing and enriching in knowledge, historically, scientifically and spiritually. That experience brought the best out of me, as a human being and a nature lover, by giving the chance of experiencing a whole new level of peace and tranquility.…

Individuals can take action by investing on greener energy sources. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made it easier now more than ever for people to reduce their own carbon footprint by labeling various electrical products ranging from dishwashers to tablets with an Energy Star label. These products meet EPA’s low standards of energy consumption which will in turn reduce the cost of energy bills. As for transportation, carpooling and public transportation that rely on renewable energy are key to reducing your carbon footprint. Less than a decade ago, most vehicles were required to only meet minimal fuel-economy standards (Henson 388), so for those who must commute by car daily, investing in an energy efficient vehicles like electric cars and hybrids is a great way to help cut carbon…

By far, the most popular argument in support of a more eco-friendly lifestyle is the fact that it reduces waste and pollution. This is the main goal of going green and seems to be a good reason to readjust the way we live. One option to living greener is to recycle and reuse materials; this practice lowers the amount of waste you produce and in extent it places less garbage on the earth’s landfills. The use of alternative energy also helps by emitting les pollutants into the air we breathe. These pollutants are known to affect the ozone layer of the earth in a negative way and alternative fuels have been seen to emit fumes of less harmful gases. As if more of an incentive was needed, when a person pollutes and wastes less, they save themselves money by reusing old items and using cleaner fuels. It is a change that benefits the planet as well as your wallet.…

They say that I am just a kid. That I can't change anything. They say the world is a cruel and heartless place, and it is. In today's world people are more concerned with their text messages than their neighbors. People are more worried about Jersey Shore than the bullying at local schools. But the real problem is not their ignorance, it is their indifference. They play the "life is unfair card," and move on. But not me. To change the world, it starts with a single person.…

I would consider food, water and transportation to be the largest components of ecological footprint in most developed countries. Many people with a decent to wealthy income abuse these components often adding to their carbon footprint. People should be more conscious of how much gas they put in to the atmosphere. People need to be more cautious about turning their cars off when unneeded and to use other forms of transportation such as walking or biking when the weather permits. Also, carpooling is another option to help reduce carbon footprint. Why take two cars when you could take one? Finally, it is important to be aware when buying a car, how much gas it uses. Some cars, like trucks for example, can be total gas guzzlers.…
