On the morning of the fifth day of the trip, we headed to the mighty Pacuare River where all of us would have one of the worst days of our lives. We drove three hours on a bus to the top of a mountain, two and a half miles away from the river. This was the closest road to the river, but this river was said to be the best whitewater around. We had to carry our 45 pound boats a mile…

Curious to see the ever moving stingrays up close I leened over the side of the boat with my camera to examine them. Those stingrays had some very distinktiv features! Its heads were dome-shaped. They had broad blunt noses that seperated their inconspicuous eyes. When they jump out of the water I could see their funny mouths, it looked as if they were smiling. The rays were much biggest than I thought at first, their "wingspan" was about three feet. Because the stingray over lapped each other and turned side ways as they swum I could see that their undersides was pale yellow, like…

For many people, water is a source of relaxation and comfort, while others believe that it can be dangerous and deceiving, but often times people do not look at what lives among it. Whether it is a body of fresh water, or a body of salt water, many creatures lurk among the depths of seas, oceans, lakes, and rivers without gaining the attention of human beings. With this, a plethora of sea creatures that tend to remain hidden can harm human beings. People believe that sharks are the deadliest sea creature on the planet, however, this is a false statement. Sharks are most known for their terrifying attacks on humans, but they lack the qualities of a deadly creature. Brute force and sharp teeth can only take this animal so far and many attacks do not result in death. Sharks are vicious and frightening animals, but there is not one creature throughout the Earth’s oceans that is more deadly than the box jellyfish. This aquatic monster has placed fear into the entire world with the lethality it has displayed toward humans.…

It was very shallow at ebb tide, and their ship stood up so that it was far to see from the ship to the water. But so much did they desire to land that they did not give themselves time to wait until the water again rose under their ship, but ran at once on shore at a place where a river flows out of a lake. But so soon as the waters rose up under the ship, then took they boats, and rowed to the ship, and floated it up the river, and thence into the lake, and there cast anchor, and brought up from the ship their bedding, and set up tents.…

Attention Getter: Breathe slowly. Do not hold your breath. Equalize early and often. Stay off the seafloor. These are a few of the thoughts going through my mind while descending on my first open-water dive in Monterey, California. I hear the eerie silence, interrupted only by the sound of water surging past me. As the salty water trickles through my regulator and into my mouth, I feel the cold rush toward my bare face, the only exposed part of my body. I look through my goggles and see absolutely stunning animals and organisms that most people will only see in books and pictures. I see coral and kelp, fish and sea stars, just swaying with the ocean - their home.…
