Managing to break free from my mother’s grasp, I charged. With arms flailing and chubby legs fluttering beneath me, I was the ferocious two year old rampaging through Costco on a Saturday morning. My mother’s eyes widened in horror as I jettisoned my churro; the cinnamonsugar rocket gracefully sliced its way through the air while I continued my spree. I sprinted through the aisles, looking up in awe at the massive bulk products that towered over me. Overcome with wonder, I wanted to touch and taste, to stick my head into industrialsized freezers, to explore every crevice. I was a conquistador, but rather than searching the land for El Dorado, I scoured aisles for free samples. Before inevitably being whisked away into a shopping cart, I…

“It works just as good as the name brand,” my mother would always suggest. As I have matured, I regret to admit that, in most instances, my mother’s notion was right. Consequently, those very words describe my shopping nature. When I think of what kind of shopper I am and how I have developed my shopping habits, there are three factors that are responsible for my consumer behavior. Those factors include my childhood shopping experiences, my knowledge of advertising and marketing, and my persona.…

When I first joined Walmart about six year or so ago, I had to run my store like a mom and pa store. If you don’t know what that mean it is a small town store that runs off of old fashion know how. I would have customers coming into the store yell at me why did not carry an item from there country. My only replay to that at first was we are in America that is why. Them I notice that I was being close minded and need to capture that market that I was missing out on. Being a manager in south Florida area there are about five to seven different type of people from different areas around the world. To tell my story, I have to set the scene. It was the summer of 2014, the Thursday before school started actually. I had not seen familiar faces in a while so, I was ready to get back. I did not realize it yet, but taking a job at Whataburger would be the biggest (only) mistake I ever made.…

A social norm is the rules of behavior that are considered acceptable in a group or society. People who go against the social norm may be shunned or looked at as a bad person. For my social norm breaching experiment, I decided to dress up as a hospital patient that had just been released from the hospital and walk around Wal-Mart. My mom is a registered nurse at the Baptist Memorial Hospital, so she was able to get me the materials that I needed to conduct the experiment. I decided to do this at Wal-Mart, because of the people that go in there. However, I didn’t conduct this experiment at the Wal-Mart in my hometown. I knew that less people would catch on to the operation if they didn’t recognize me. There is always a variety of people in every Wal-Mart across America, so I speculated that I would get a lot of responses and/or emotions from several different people that didn’t know me personally. I only…

This week reminded me how amazing and important my job is. Friday was a busy day at the office; I was rushing to finish my work so I could leave on time. As I was about to leave I received a phone call from a hiring manager (Mark) with NOAA. Mark had questions about the interview process and was calling to speak to one of my colleagues. Unfortunately, my colleague was on vacation and wouldn’t be back for another week. I looked at the clock and realized it was time to go but I could hear the frustration in Mark’s voice. Instead of leaving, I spent almost an hour listening to Mark’s concerns, answering his questions, and I explained how the federal hiring process works. At the end of our conversation, Mark thanked me for my time and he told me…

It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…
