Personal Narrative: My Trip To Vietnam
First off, trip to Vietnam was truly a blessing. I did not expect so much of the trip until the first day I arrived Vietnam. On my first day, I got an opportunity to meet many great people who were selfless; those who cared more about others rather than themselves. It took approximately 14hours in total to arrive at hotel. Even though the plane ride was only about 5hours, since it was a group trip, it took extra time to ensure everyone is in right place. Despite the exhaustion and drowsiness, no one complained but encouraged others. I was already touched by grace of God before we even began our mission trip. On the second day, I volunteered for the medical service. There were two activities including the medical service, and house painting …show more content…
Everyone had different disease or injury and there were numerous medicines that had to be classified. Everyone had to work for hours and hours until all patients were treated. In addition, there were many obstacles that we had to overcome. The hospital was not developed and modern as it is in Korea there were many technical difficulties, however, under God's grace and blessings, we were able to surmount the challenges again. After the medical service was over, we visited different places and handed out gifts to little children. As I handed out gifts, I saw the pureness and happiness amongst children in their eyes. I thought that this part of the trip was one of the most precious and blessed time. I realized why our God loves children so much. They did not have any ambition, worries, or sinful thoughts but was full of joy and purity. At the same time, I looked back on myself. I felt like I was adjusting to today's society, forgetting the true values: love, trust, and care for not only God but everyone in this world. Additionally, this trip helped me get one step forwards in determining what I should be doing in the future as a God's

On Saturday, I have attended a Pow Wow that was happening at the California State University of Long Beach. I knew what kind of event it was because this was my second time attending one. At the first Pow Wow, I was able to take the opportunity to volunteer for them and helped them out with the resting area for the dancers and other miscellaneous tasks. I also had the chance to walk around and explore what was provided and stayed at the event until the end. It has been over two years since I had gone to the first Pow Wow so I was excited to see once again the beauty and the uniqueness of the Native Americans and their culture.…

Saigon, a small city situated in South Vietnam, is where I grew up. It’s not a big city; however, its population has been growing rapidly in the past decade. New immigrants from different part of the country keep coming toward us for higher-paid jobs and modern technologies. Unlike the U.S, Vietnam is not a developed country. We have low standards living condition; some parts of the country even have no electricity; crimes and violations happen frequently because people want to escape from poverty; etc. Growing up in a country consisted of those characteristics, I was taught to be ambitious and to push myself hard enough to reach higher goals. It is the bad condition in my country that harbors my dreams to come to the US and to get access to…

Pow! Right smack in my forehead crushing my skull. The metal baseball bat knocked in my skull. It was a warm sunny day in the middle of the summer. Joey, my brother, was hitting tennis balls over my house. Little 10 year old me was playing in the yard and my brother purposely pushed me far away so he wouldn’t hit me. Oh how I was a stupid little kid. I was intrigued by what he was doing so I started wandering over to like how not knowing little kids do. As I approached my brother he was so focused on himself that he did not see me. When I finally reached him he had just set up to hit another ball. He hits the ball, but on his back rotation, the bat makes contact with my head. I fell hard on the pavement. Before I went unconscious I heard my…

The bloody plane was shot down…I was sleeping dreaming about a concoction of fish and chips and my home before the war. I lived on a farm, and I had my own horse…I miss him. My dad taught me how to ride when I was four; riding would provide me relief from school and farming. Anyways, I then I awoke to a storm of fire. The plane was literally sliced in two. I think the beastly enemy shot us down. Even though they shot us clean out of the sky, I wish to thank them and show some British manners to them because this island is beautiful. It has fruit, and the sights are more beautiful than anything back home. There are even pigs on the island that we could eat. Sadly, I thought myself alone until a booming noise thundered through the jungle. I was scared; I thought it was an earthquake, although I have never experienced one before.…

When you are someone’s support system you take on multiple roles that indirectly deteriorate your self preservation. Being a listener or a shoulder to cry on, requires sacrifices that, in the moment, you do not even recognize as imposing. Voluntarily and willingly being there for someone begins with the unwavering doubt that you and your own problems cannot and will not prevail over your person’s immediate crisis. Depending on the duration of your duty, a somewhat selfish thought of inconvenience is bound to surface. But, that wave of retraction is almost always combatted by a riptide of dedication and loyalty that brings you back to sea, where all you can do is tread. In turn, the suppression of self regarding issues regularly comes with a layer of obligation and a sting of bitterness.…

These were the words telling me that I was going to Iraq, to fight and destroy the enemies of the United States of America and face one of my biggest challenges yet. Soon after I received my orders in the mail I had a dilemma, what’s going to happen when I tell my mother and the rest of my family? The night of April, 18, 1775 I was abruptly woken up by some random man running through Boston yelling “The British are coming, the British are coming!” I was not very happy of getting less than a hour of sleep. This weird man came through around 10:30 PM and woke everyone in the town from there sleep. At first when I heard him say that phase I did not know what he meant by it. I then gathered with my neighbors outside and was told if I wanted to fight the British I had to sign my name on the books in the city hall later that evening. When I went to that meeting later that night they told me to go home get a pound of bread a flask of water and my gun, and to also get a little rest and when the drums sound go stand on the green. So I went home and rested a little and then said my goodbyes to little Johnny and Benjamin. Until we all heard the drums. I then went with my…

As the time came, I eventually started to walk to the church (which so happened to be the one across the street from my house). While walking to the church, I thought about what was going see on the trip. As some of my other teammates participated in the early months and told their experiences to the teams, I thought the gist of the whole trip was for me witness those in need and pass out food to them. Eventually, I arrived at the church earlier than usual. Thinking…

Let me start off with my mother's journey to America. It was 1985 when her parents decided it was time for a fresh start. It was very difficult to come to America legally, so they made their journey by traveling to other countries. They left Cuba and traveled to Spain where my grandfather found a job as a farmer. They lived in Spain for almost 2 years before they gathered enough resources to travel to Mexico. The journey from Mexico to the USA was very easy for them because they had a family member who knew their way around. They struggled for many years in America but soon became legal citizens. My mother later on went to college and completed her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Miami. My grandparents purchased the…

    My Memorable Moment

The service that i attended and served at was one of the most memorable moments in my life. I will never forget getting off that bus and seeing all of the kids who needed school supplies for that coming school year. When i was in 8th grade, i went with my church downtown to a school to hand out school supplies to kids who did not have enough money to buy there own. It was a bittersweet occasion because it was unfortunate to see all of those children who were not able to have their own supplies but on the other hand, I was pleased and so blessed to be one of the people to help them out. Before we opened everything up, i got the great opportunity to meet some of the kids waiting in line. There were kids from ages five to 18 there that were all smiles and their eyes were bright with anticipation, just to get school supplies. The kids there were so sweet and it made my heart warm to see them getting everything they needed to get and i was fortunate to be one of the people that the kids looked up to. It was so meaningful to me because it was like seeing the world from a whole new perspective. I go from living in a nice place, getting my own school supplies, living in a nice neighborhood and going to a nice school, to going downtown, to see kids who have never really had the experience to do what i do and they are still some of the most kind hearted people i have ever met. It is amazing to be apart of a situation where you see things from another side and that those people do not need everything in the world to be happy.…
