Personal Narrative: My Trip To Kansas State Fair
This weekend I went to the Kansas, State Fair! I took my best friend Tori Foust. I have took her since the third grade since my brother started college when I was in second grade, so I had no one to go on rides with. When we arrived at the fair we went straight to the stables. While we were at the stables we saw a girl who looked about eight or nine years old. She was walking a beautiful tan horse with a white pattern! She asked if we would like to pet her horse, and of course we said yes. After the stables we went started to go on rides! My very favorite ride was the Star ship! The star ship is closed off it you stand in front of a padded board with wheels underneath it. It starts to spin really fast, so the board goes up and down with you

There’s a certain moment in my life that really stands out to me. It was the day I went to Colorado. The day got out to an excellent start. It was my first time getting on a plane. My grandmother had told me the different ways the Navy and Air force take off. Our pilot was definitely in the Navy before because he took off going up as soon as he could, that was my favorite part of the flight. I was also thrilled that we were high up in the sky. Everything below was so tiny and we were above the clouds.…

I walked into the doors of Statehouse Expo Center, my feet walking with the sound of my bag rolling over the little cracks on the light floor tile, my white uniform as crisp as a fall breeze. With every step further, I could see more people. Lots more people. The mats filled with people. People who spend their whole lives working to be where they are, on those mats. Sparring, combat, weapons and forms. XMA in one corner, Black Belts in another corner, everyone else in a corner and staging in a corner. All surrounded by a Sr. Master or the occasional Master. When we get to a tournament, our team always meets up. Then all the kids go explore. We found our team and all the kids put away their IPads and Kindle Fires.…

Today is the day! Today, I go experience the Knott’s Berry Farm for myself. I couldn’t wait to ride the rides, so when my uncle got here I raced into his car and off we went to the Knott’s Berry Farm. When we arrived, we immediately decided to aim for finishing all the rides. Most of the lines for the rides were very intimidating. To the point where we were questioning ourselves will this really be worth it? Most of the rides we waited in had a queue of 1 to 2 hours but the rides were definitely worth it even if they were just 1 to 2 minutes. In return for the queue, the rides always kept me occupies with the accelerations, drops, and loops! All the waiting, loops, and drops without food was starting to take affect and I was getting hungry…

When the second week of February arrived, Kayla and I left Sioux Falls around six in the morning. Arriving in Brookings a hour later, we were driven to the campus and taken to a building with a large gathering room that held other schools whom had already arrived before us. We were assigned seats in specific sections—ranging from Bass, Tenor, Alto, or Soprano. Hours of practicing went by, and we had reached the last few hours of the day. Driven to a performance hall; we ran through all the songs once more before the final…

Life in Kansas. Well, it’s life, but in Kansas. If I ever talk to someone from another state or anywhere else they always say something about it being flat, even though I never thought it was flat because there are the beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas that are not flat at all. Also, if I ever travel outside of Kansas and somebody knows I am from Kansas they will say “I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore” as some kind of joke, it’s a given. The Flint Hills are absolutely stunning and it is my favorite thing to see when I’m traveling to Kansas City.…

The holiday season, a time meant for the celebration of chilly weather and cheerful greetings, is perhaps the most celebrated time in America. Each year, millions of high school students embrace the promises of the holidays as an opportunity for rest, relaxation, and freedom from the confines of scholarly pursuit. I, being one of many students weighed down by the stress of finals and academia, eagerly anticipated my holiday break that would begin the second week of December. For weeks, I planned out what I would do with my abundance of free time so that I would enjoy each day to the maximum capacity. I resolved to travel to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where I would experience the scenic snow-capped mountains, bustling village towns, and adventurous…

The day of September 1, I missed class to be with my family in Memphis. My mom wanted everyone in our immediate family to gather together because my brother was leaving for the army. It was such an exciting week because I haven’t been home to see them in about year prior. My brother has recently graduated from high school and also turned 18. I am beyond proud of the person he has become, so to see him all grown up making the decision to leave home brought tears to my eyes.…

This summer I had the opportunity to visit New York City and was able to tour campus. As soon as I stepped foot on the grounds I felt at home. The quiet campus seemed like a great escape from the bustling city. All of the students I met seemed very welcoming and willing to help out new students. I've grown up in Oklahoma City and realize that moving to New York will be a big adjustment. Barnard provides the support I will need to become comfortable in this new environment. I also value how hard Barnard works to support all the women that attend. The opportunities and doors they have opened for all graduates is inspirational. I want to attend a college that is dedicated to their students. A college where women support each other instead of tearing…

There’s a lot of great things I saw on my trip to Galveston, Texas. My favorite place there was the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, while I was there I got on the roller coaster… that was very interesting. There was kids scared to even get on it because a lot of different people were saying things about it. It was “scary” or maybe “you’ll fall off of it”, I was frightened. From far far away you can see the ships when you were around the beach. They looked sketchy, but, whenever I looked at it from far away I thought it was something else. I was on the beach and I was so scared because one of my good friends shot me a text and said:“You realize you’re at a place where there is sharks and a kid died there because of it a few weeks ago”.…

I came to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the fall. I suffered from depression my junior and senior year of high school. I was never officially diagnosed, because I lied to every therapist my mother sent me to. I could not be honest with anyone but myself at the time. However, I thought things would be different when I came to college. I thought I would be able to open up to people again, but I never anticipated that I would get worse. I thought college would cure me, for some reason. Ironically, I got even worse my first semester in college. My previous burdens added on to the pressure of getting good grades, being involved on campus, and trying to make friends. It was all too much for me. It also didn't help…

On Saturday April 13, 2013 I was walking through the parking garage on the USAA campus in San Antonio, TX to start my 4 hour work shift, I began to go through the turnstile and seemingly startled awake a bat. This bat began to fly and squeal in fear. It darted at my head getting caught in my hair a couple times. I started to scream and flail my arms about trying to fend off the nocturnal flying mammal in fear. During what seemed to be forever I was able to unlock the turnstile and exit the entry way but not before rupturing two discs in my neck. This incident caused quite the turn of events in my life. I had been working for USAA for 3 years and truly loved it there. I also lived in a beautiful apartment with my mother and two children and…

“What do you think?” I said to the man as he analyzed the car in my driveway. He was doing this for the past half an hour, asking every question there was to know about the car. I knew everything about the cars that I dealt with and I answered every question more confidently than the one before. This chat went on for another fifteen minutes and by this time I knew in my head, if he didn’t like the car, he would probably have already left. Finally, he said to me in an eager tone, “What’s your final price?” This was a trick question and has been asked to me over a dozen times before.…
