Personal Narrative: My Role As Junior Class President
Throughout middle and high school, I have positively influenced others as a member of my High School Student Government class, as Commissioners of Social Media and Recognition, and as Junior Class President. On occasion, I took the role of Interim ASB President, where I was in charge of the Student Government class as a whole. My major responsibility as Junior Class President was to communicate comments presented by my class to administration. This helped bridge communication gaps between students and administration. In my role as Junior Class President, I promoted an open door policy for any classmate to come to me with issues and helped them to the best of my abilities. For example, a classmate came to me asking for ways to improve his grade

The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

Crisp, golden light creeped out from behind my curtains into my bedroom on a cool Fall morning, rising me up from my sleep. Once I had gotten myself dressed, I shuffled downstairs to my kitchen and poured myself some life cereal and milk. As soon as I had finished the rest of my daily routine that got me ready for school, my mom drove me and my sister off to Finley Farms, which was the school we attended. The school day went by as usual and slinked away, but after a few subjects my class, along with the other 5th graders, were led by our teachers downstairs to a room where we were greeted by a woman who told us she was Mrs.Sopeland. The fifth graders all sat down in a semi-circle formation and waited for the rest of the 5th grade classes.…

Everyday I am influenced by their leadership and commitment to Van Horn. It’s been difficult because I’ve never had to guide my classmates and ensure that their experience in an activity is positive. As well as making sure they don’t get off topic, which they tend to do on a frequent basis. I hope I have influenced them nearly as much as they have influenced me. Through National Honor Society I have become closer…

For the past three years, I have been the Key Club class representative. Throughout my experience, I learned that leadership is essential in volunteer operations, whether providing food for the hungry on a small scale or raising money for people in need. My role as class representative revolved around my ability to attract and retain quality volunteers. I was responsible for delegating essential tasks to the volunteers in a fair, effective manner. As the class representative, I was initially a volunteer coordinator, one of my initiatives was to allow volunteers to choose which tasks they felt most comfortable with. I had to get to know the members and understand their limits and play on their strength .With that knowledge, I was able to identify…

One day in seventh grade something wondrous occurred to me. At the end of the school day I was packing my belongings that I would need when I materialized at my house. Though while I was preoccupied, I espied something in my mailbox with my eyes suddenly. In matter of that fact, I decided to walk over to it. I slipped my hand through it and then grasped a letter. In result, my body very slowly went to my seat and I opened it. I couldn’t believe my eyes! I was accepted into the National Junior Honor Society. I was so thrilled that I was going ditzy with my adrenaline rising, at least in a fine way. I started cavorting up and down. My body could not stop jumping, vibrating with joy or talking about my news. So I told all of my friends in my class…

When influencing change, small acts of kindness and truth can be more impactful than forcing change to occur. One of the biggest parts of my senior year has been advocating positive change within our school. Throughout my high school career, I have been able to grow from my peers but as a senior I became a leader as a student rather than as National Honor Society President.…

My time at the community college was used to focus on building a strong academic foundation, specifically tutoring international students English every week as they tried to maneuver through their lives in the United States. I remember during one particular session, a Chinese exchange student told me that when she first arrived in Seattle, she was in a state of euphoria. However, her inability to communicate fluently with her peers hindered her from adapting to the customs in America. Consequently, it impeded her from making her own place in society. Another individual, who emigrated from Eritrea, confessed she was still unfamiliar with having additional resources at her fingertips. She grew up in an area where advanced technological tools,…

It seemed nearly unfathomable to imagine that I, a single high school student, could make any sort of difference in the world. Through service clubs and continuous passion, I have overcome my social barriers that have prevented me from flourishing among my peers. After participating in different leadership camps and community service events, I overcame my shyness and realized the confidence I had within me. I owe a huge portion of this confidence to Interact for allowing me to express my individuality, and I desired to return the favor by influencing other members to show their confidence as well. Being Vice President of my school’s Interact Club has given me great responsibility to not only act as a role model to the fellow members of the…

My junior year in high school I took two classes from teachers who gave immense amounts of work on difficult material. The classes were Honors Pre-Calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II. After a day at school and a demanding golf practice until dark, it was time to start my homework. By then I was already exhausted, but I still had hours of homework ahead of me. Most schools nights I would not be able to start my hefty pile of homework until 8 o'clock. Many nights the strenuous assignments given in Honors Pre-calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II kept me awake late into the night, even as late as 4 am. It was difficult struggling to stay awake and complete my strenuous workload after an entire day of activity. A full night of sleep…

In first grade, it was my first year in public school so I didn’t have as much friends as the the people that were in kindergarten last year. When I walked into the room, both of my parents on each of my side they introduced to my teacher then I sat in the empty seat. The person assigned to sit next was a girl named Chloe. At first sight, I mesmerized by the amount of silly bands she had. At that moment I knew I had to be her friend.…

At the end of my Freshman year my family had finally closed a deal on a house, and with that closing another door of opportunity opened. Living in this new location put us in a different school district, and my father was pretty insistent that i tried going to regular high school. Which my mother would then interject with, “The boy is doing fine and he is loving what he is doing. Why would we change that?”. Now you might be thinking along the same lines as my mother. If i had friends, structure, and was enjoyed the curriculum i was doing, then why would i switch? Why not just let this opportunity go by and keep on chugging along? Fortunately, this story is a little more interesting than that. I decided that i wanted to try and do my Sophomore…

This is the first group class I attended. This is because group class is a perfect way to practice the different dance steps I learned. In this group class I learned the basic steps for hustle. I was a little nervous since beside my instructor I have not danced with anybody else. Since it’s a group class, the males would stand on one side and the females would stand across from them. The guys would move over one each time a dance is over, so we get to dance with different people. There was one occasion when I was partnered up with a really tall guy and we were doing a move where I have to swing my arm around his neck. We looked really awkward after I did the move because my hand could barely touch his neck.…
