Personal Narrative: My Life At Spelman
My freshman year at Spelman wasn’t one for the books, it wasn’t the definition of #goals, it wasn’t full of memories, in fact it was probably one of the hardest years of my life. For as long as I can remember, I was always a well-known member of my school’s student body. I was the girl teachers requested, I made everything I ever tried out for, and in every leadership position in almost every club. I can confidently say high school was great and I thought college would be even better.
It was December 27th, 2014 when I found out that I was accepted into Spelman. It was like a dream come true, for the last three years Spelman had been my life. I had networked with other prospects, connected to all social media pages, and researched every single detail. I was preparing myself to leave, when I got an email about applying to be Sophomore Class Co-Publicity Chair. I have always liked designing and giving information to the public, so I applied on a whim. Weeks went by and I received no confirmation that my application was being reviewed, then I received an email saying “CONGRATUALTIONS…you have been selected to interview for the appointed position of TREASURER”. If I could insert the upside down smiley face, I would because this is the perfect moment. Treasurer. I later received another email apologizing for the error and that it didn’t apply to me. Okay, I thought, this was the nail in the coffin that was telling me that I needed to close my Spelman chapter. There was nothing for me at this school and the only time I put myself out there, I got rejected. VCU, here I come. Two days later, I got an email telling me that I got an interview for the Co-Pub position. I went through the interview process, and lucky enough, I got the
