Personal Narrative: My Life As A Child In California
My life as a child in California was a rough one and I remember it well despite being so young. My mother gave birth to me when she was 19 and my biological father died shortly after. I was raised primarily by my grandparents as my mother was incapable of caring for me. She turned her life around when she married but more problems arose further along in time. Quarrels between my parents became frequent, and they decided to move our family away from everything we had known to start anew elsewhere. When we left California, no one in our family was informed. My parents gathered everything of importance in our small home, and we left that night for Missouri never to return. My great grandmother lived in Missouri and our family moved in with her …show more content…
I’ve learned how to be patient and persevere through tough situations. I’ve increased my problem solving skills through resolving quarrels, and learned to look at every side during a disagreement. I have an outlook I wouldn't have had if things had been different, and the life skills I’ve acquired are uncountable. I have learned so much about myself and what I’m capable of, and I’ve only just realized how much these events have broadened me as a person. I used to believe I’d be behind because of my situation, but now I feel ahead and prepared to face anything. Being who my siblings have always leaned and depended on has led me to realize what I want to do with my life and fueled my passion. I’m thankful for everything I’ve experienced and learned in my life thus far, but I can’t wait to start the next chapter. I know I can persevere through anything, and I will boldly face each challenge that comes my way until I achieve all my goals. One day I hope to be in pediatrics where I can impact the lives of children

She was born on a busy summer night on September 13th 1918 in Brookline, Massachusetts. I always had the feeling that Rosie was a little different from the rest of us. On the day of her birth the midwife arrived late, and my theory is that this action deprived her brain of oxygen. We were proven right when she failed to advance from kindergarten and was deemed to suffer from intellectual disabilities. When this happened our parents began to conceal their third child from society.…

As most children grow up, they are aware of their surroundings and take in everything they can understand which adds to their personality and their structure of life. As a child I developed at a level more advanced than the children around me. I learned to use a computer at the age of 3 years old. I read at an 8th-9th grade level while in the 5th grade. In addition, I could handle complex situations better than a average elementary student. The mindset I had as a child unlocked new doors for me. For example, I was not afraid to try new things and accept the lessons that came along with new opportunities. Also, I learned from my parents that going down the path of success isn’t always easy. Lastly, I experienced that life is filled with…

When I was 17 it was 1995, I went on my first real date. We were going to see First Knight. The boy in question was the friend of a friend and I had only ever talked to him on the phone. He said he would pick me up at 7 and we would catch a movie. So far so good. 7 rolls around and he isn't there, he calls and says his Dad is running late so they won't be there till 8. I didn't realize his Dad was driving but whatever, I am withholding judgment. 8:30 they show up and he knocks on my door and I go out to join him. He leans in for a kiss and I lean very far back and awkwardly stick out my hand to shake his hand. He doesn't act like he knows what to do next and he is just staring at his feet and his Dad is staring at us and time just crawls. We finally just painfully walk to the car. It is not immediately apparent where we are going to be sitting. Now, this dude's Dad was HUGE. Not just his weight, but his entire freaking frame. He barely fits in his car. He has the driver's seat all the way back and in the front seat next to him is a cage of living breathing birds. The back seat is really only half a back seat because his Dad is filling so much of the car. I look at my date and look at the car. My date seems to have come to the same realization that there is really only one seat. I squeeze into the backseat while my date squeezes into the front seat with a bird…

Ever since I started school, I felt an ease to learn and catch on anything we were taught in class. I felt that I was very quick to get the hang of just about anything, but another thing I realized that I wish I did not have was also that I was very lazy at a beginning. However, when I really set my mind to something, or find interest in anything, I am capable of making wonders with it and taking things to another level.…

I have faced many trials in my life: emotionally, mentally, and physically, etc. In my youth, my family and I moved every couple of years because my father serves in the Army. Each move introduced new challenges and adjustments. I have lived in five different states, but six different cities. I constantly had to learn how to readjust to my new environment. Moving taught me how to adapt socially , but always starting out as “the new girl” or an “outsider” was burdensome. Repeatedly leaving people I cared about hurt me emotionally, but I also knew that I couldn’t linger in my feelings or else I would miss out on other life opportunities. In order to overcome the feeling of being an outsider, I joined school clubs, participated in extracurricular activities such as soccer and track, and volunteer at church.…

What a difference a bridge can make! I grew up in a community that one would not call diverse. Currently, my hometown is 97% white. Driving across a 2.4-mile bridge over the Illinois River, the demographics change to 62% white, 26% black, and 4.6 Asian. Among my classmates, there were few ethnicities other than Caucasian. I did realize this difference as a child and I was extremely interested in other cultures, especially when we would go on vacation. Hearing other languages and seeing new traditions was very exciting to me. I would immediately befriend the foreign exchange students at my high school and would submerge myself in their culture as much as possible.…
