When I grow up older I want to be a Chiropractor. Chiropractors care for patients with health problems of the neuromusculoskeletal system, which includes nerves, bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. They use spinal adjustments , manipulation, and other techniques to manage patients health concerns, such as mechanics and back pain. (collegegrad.com and truirty)…
Hey Jordan, I’m Seamus your new mentee. I know you said answering emails was on the three things you don’t like to do, but I thought I should introduce myself.…
As I was looking for a Physician Assistant program I focused on three main things: research, prestige, and location. I was fortunate enough to discover that Yale PA program exceeded my expectations. As a clinical research assistant, I have had the pleasure to work with great clinicians (doctors and physician assistants alike) who have graduated from Yale Medical School and Yale PA program. Their perseverance, ability to react efficiently and decisively in difficult situations are some of the many qualities that Yale highlights and solidifies in its programs. Furthermore, shadowing one of the physician assistants who graduated from the Yale program gave me a better insight on the rigorously, expectations, and preparations of Yale PA program.…
While visiting the College Foundation of North Carolina website I was not surprised in my answers. My Holland code was CES, meaning conventional, enterprising, an social. Also, I was able to find out my work values and they are achievement, recognition, and relationships. However, I do feel like there were more on the list that I felt were also part of my work values. I definitely feel like these relate to my degree and also my professional career. It would be very beneficial because while getting my associate and bachelor degree and then leading to my career as an Occupational Therapist it will become very helpful by being organized, working with people and helping others. While being an Occupational Therapist my work values will mean everything…
I hope all is well. I am a bit concerned about my Clinical Placement. To date we have not started and it is currently week 5. I am collecting my Physical Package today, which I will submit to Interfaith.…
My goal is to become either a physical therapist or an athletic trainer and help out many athletes who struggle to get back to their normal body. I had two injuries during two consecutive high school golf seasons: a muscle strain in the back and a collarbone fracture. After a week of physical therapy after my surgery on my right collarbone, I started to be able to carry my backpack with one shoulder and write with my right hand. Two month after physical therapy, I was able to hit my driver. Then I realized something quite surprising; as I started to practice, my driver started to go further and further. My coaches had the same reaction as they both asked me if the story of the collarbone incident was actually true.…
The internet is a wonderful thing that is constantly changing the way we think about health.…
“Don’t pick a job with great vacation time. Pick one that doesn’t need escaping from” (Popik). Choosing a career that makes me happy is a very important decision in my life. With only about three years left of high school, I’ve been trying to ascertain the occupation that would benefit me in the future and give me the life I aspire to have. I have decided to explore the careers of a physical therapist and an actuary based off of my love of math and working with people. These two occupations are very different in what they do, their work environments, and job outlooks.…
It wasn’t before I met my friend Hwa I first learned about occupational therapy. Couple of years ago, I ran into my long-ago friend’s dad at a grocery store when I was back in Korea during a summer vacation. As much as I was glad to say hello, he smiled but I saw his eyes were not. It happened that Hwa’s mom and her two other sisters were involved in a car accident five years ago. Although they were all carried to Intensive Care Unit, Hwa was the only survivor from the accident. The next day, I met her in the same apartment I hung out with her before I moved to another town. “We have a guest here, Hwa,” her dad said. Hwa stared at me in a pure curiosity. Hwa could hardly talk and recognize me as many areas of her brain were affected by the…
I am interested in Occupational Therapy because I am a great problem solver. I work well with strategical task and I love to help people, no matter the costs to reach their goals. I’ve had encounters with OTs in the past because of my mother who had worked as an CNA/Ward-clerk of her life had a friend and co-worker the worked as an OT. I gained my interest to Occupational therapy also through a therapist that helped my nephew whom dealt with autism. They both shared stories and their experiences with me, inspiring me to give therapy a try. I feel that OT fits my supportive and outgoing personality.…
I do not want to sound like that cliché student that say they excel in science curriculums or enjoy helping people, but I do. I attend a high school that is geared towards science and I exceeded the expectations of courses I have taken. My mother has been a nurse for almost 40 years, which stood as a major influence on my choice of major and why I am pleased when helping people. I may be that cliché student, but I am much more. I am a problem solver; my brain is always cranking to decipher the problems at hand. I am a dreamer; I dream of having a successful, healthy, and happy life. I am motivated; once I put my mind to something, very little can stand in the way of what I wish to achieve. A Doctorate of Physical Therapy is what I want to end my college journey with, no matter how long it takes and how bumpy the journey is, because it is what I dream of.…
Today I spent the majority of the day at Kaiser. First at the Physical Therapy department, then at Neurology. During my physical therapy appointment, we were still addressing my sciatic nerve condition and the neurologist ruled out any nerve damage relating to my left arm which has been tingling and numbing lately. It turns out I've probably been sleeping on my left arm in a weird way, and it's causing, yet another, pinched nerve!…
I was eight years old and I couldn’t even tie my shoes. I possessed no athletic talent. I was socially awkward because I was the kid that no one wants on their team.…
Due to my involvement and love for sports my whole life, I am not only a student of physical therapist, but I have also been victim to injury and participated in physical therapy a number of times. I was a little bit skeptical going into my first physical therapy session, I wasn’t all that comfortable with someone else having control of my body, putting their hands on me, and was nervous. However, as soon as I got their everything got more relaxed, they showed nothing but respect to me, and made me feel as comfortable as possible, which ultimately eased my nerves. The physical therapists made sure I knew that they were there to do nothing more than to help me return to full health once again. Over the course of my physical therapy treatment,…
For the next week, I needed help for every little thing. I wasn’t capable of eating solid food, showering by myself, dressing myself or walking alone. My friends would visit me while I was stuck at home. The only person that I wouldn’t let visit me was at the time was my boyfriend because I didn’t want him to see me the way I was even though he said it didn’t matter but to me it did. After that I finally could start physical therapy where I had to do a lot of painful exercises for my legs. I wasn’t allowed to run for a few weeks because if I did I would become paralyzed. When I could finally go back to school, I was made fun of because one of my eyebrows was half gone even though everybody at school knew what had happened to me.…
