Personal Narrative: My High School Education
During the early years of my high school education, I have been faced with multiple challenges. The most difficult of these took place early June 2014, just after the conclusion of my ninth grade scholastic year. My mother was offered an appointment at an international organization in Washington DC, USA, because of this, my brother and I had to move with her to settle there. The move took place within a very short notice and to me, it felt like an adventure to the unknown. It was not like moving from one school to another, or one country to another. It was rather moving to a totally different continent and life environment. I will not deny the fact that I was overwhelmed by the many challenges I had to face and overcome during our move and …show more content…
Moving from a school that I have been going to ever since my kindergarten years, to a school in an area that I have never been to before was a very mentally challenging task to resolve. However, with my keen determination and the support of the new school management, I was able to succeed in adjusting and adapting to my new school environment and teaching styles, which were very different from those of my previous school. Shortly after early attendance to the new school, I worked hard to communicate, get to know all my teachers better, and succeed in making good connections with everyone. All of these factors contributed to making my first year as easy as it could be. Mentally, I was challenging myself to get used to the system as fast as possible to ensure that my transition would not affect my high school academic performance achievements. With my strong determination and dedication I was able not only to maintain satisfactory academic achievements during the first year, but I was also to make the community basketball team and become a referee shortly after. In addition, I succeeded in making many new friends and getting to know the community I was living in a lot better. The above experience really enhanced my successful performance at school and helped me gain more self-confidence in what I do. The lessons I learned from these experiences better prepared me to face any future challenges in my life, and accomplish my assigned duties with confidence and above all, enjoy better my leisure time and

The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

School always came first, without a doubt. But, I let the move get to me. I let change get to me, and that shouldn’t have been the case.Doing my best is what I should have kept doing, but that wasn’t what happened.. My uncle is the person that made me realize that. He’d always call to check up on me, making sure I was doing the best that I could without any excuses. He called one day and asked how I was doing in my new school, and I told him the truth. His response was nothing I was prepared for. I was used to him telling me how proud he was of me, and that I’m going to set out to be the greatest at what I want to become. But, this phone conversation was not anything I thought it would be.He said, “Even though I hoped this wouldn't happen, I knew it would.” What did that even mean? Did it mean he was rooting for my failure? That talk sparked something in me. It reignited my passion for success. I started to get my act together and refocus on my grades, and what I wanted in life. Slowly my grades started improving, with each semester slightly getting…

If I were given the opportunity to change something, I would definitely choose to go back and do over the years I was in high school. During my time there, it was more important for me to do things that were more fun than sitting in class and learning. I thought that being in school was only useful for socializing and passing time. I only went because my parents forced me and so I never put any real effort into it, my adult life suffered very much because of it. Not having a high school education set me back in a lot of ways, and it closed many potentially successful job opportunities. After finally realizing what I lost, I decided to come back to school. I finally see doors opening for me now, that could have been open for me since the beginning…

During my freshman year of high school I received a letter in the mail. This letter was an invitation to play basketball in Australia, with other boys and girls of my age. The date was September 13, 2011. The letter stated that we would be leaving June 1, of 2012. Of course I wanted to go as soon as I read the letter, but my family was more curious about the trip. We did some research and figured out everything that would be offered on this trip. In my research I read of playing Australian basketball games, snorkeling, swimming in the ocean, surfing, and spending three days on Tangalooma Island. This was enough to convince my family that it would indeed be a fun trip for me to attend.…

My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…

I was the kind of guy who always strove in order to get the highest grades but yet hadn’t decided what to do in the future. I wasn’t worried, I knew someday I would find something in what I was good at. I got to live with that thought for some time until I got to attend middle school, where I stopped worrying about my grades and managed only to pass the subjects. I spent most of my time sleeping due to the frustration of not knowing what to do in the future. Most of my middle school experience was tasteless. I hadn’t friends at all, and teachers used to discourage their students about their future. “You're not going to college, you’ll not be able to do it because you’re poor” used to say, Mrs. Vazquez, the math teacher who instead of giving her class, talked on how much his son had accomplished in college and how we would not be able to attend. That was about to change.…

It has been long since I first lay my eyes on this school. I was 14 years old when I arrived in this country. I dint know what road to take, my thoughts were hey vacations since I originally lived and went to school in Guadalajara, Mexico. I decided that the best choice for me to take was to stay and achieve an education in the United States. I did not think twice after my uncles showed me South East High. I was like yea this is the place that I want to come to. I loved the way it looked, the way the people treated each other, and how friendly staff was. Once I started I found out that South East wasn't only a school it was something of another world. I had very good memories from all my teachers that I had had through all my four years on school. One of my biggest memories is the time when I first come at school, it was the first week of school and I want it to go back at home with my parents, brother, and sister because I really miss them but they told me that I have to be strong and achieve all my goals and here I am graduating me and starting a new beginning. One of the motivations that inspire me was the words that Martin Luther King said "I have a dream" so do I and it’s to become the greatest architect. My parents always told me that I can become whatever I want if I keep trying and doing the best that I can and never give up.…
