That is why one of my greatest achievements is that I have not given up in my educational goals and that I am still continuing my education.
Throughout my life, I recall hating going to school, especially because middle school and high school administrators tried to control my academics by telling me that I should take easier classes whenever I mentioned I wanted to be in an honors class or in a more difficult elective. Instead of motivating me, they would discourage me and make me feel that I was not capable of succeeding because of my disability. However, I proved them wrong; I was able to take honors courses and succeed in them

I have learned that asking for help only produces benefits. In turn, this has helped me develop the confidence to overcome certain fears. For instance, during the summer, I participated in the ELAC-LMU Undergraduate Research Scholars Academy, which was a ten day residential program of intense research. My research focused on Environmental racism. Even though it is nerve-wrecking for anyone to present in front of a large group, it was even more nerve-wrecking for me because of my disability. Thanks to the advice of teachers and family members, I was able to do speak in front of everyone without any mistakes. This has shown me that I am a resilient person who does not give up easily. This experience allowed me to get of my comfort zone because besides presenting among my peers I was presenting in front of administrators and faculty members like I mention before this opportunity not only help me express my thoughts but it also help me to seek more

Personal background starts off small, it changes and grows over time into something big, it grows into an identity. Walking down the hallway at school, seeing someone standing alone, my first instinct is to make conversation, compliment, or even just smile at him or her. This instinct came from someone once telling me an act so small could turn a person's entire life around. As a kid, reading encyclopedias about random topics, consumed my time. Many days were spent coming home to find an injured wild animal in my dad's arms waiting to be saved. My dad would sit outside and draw animals, trees, and anything else he saw. Nothing excited me more than trying to draw whatever my dad drew, and as good as he did. Any assignment that was handed to…

Who am I? That has always been an essential question for as long as I can remember. I never really understood why we had to answer that question along the way, but I’m now a senior at SJPII and I still have no idea who I am. It really bothers me that for 16 years I still haven’t figured out who I am. Constantly going from class to class and making new friends I still can’t pin point who the “real” me is.…

Now I’m going to talk about my positive traits. I like helping people, if there is something I can do, I will do it. I believe that when you do something good for other people you get two things 1, the satisfaction of helping and two, God will reward you for the good action. According to my family I’m a joyful person I’m always smiling and making people laugh. Like I said in the beginning, I don’t like showing people my weaknesses and that includes when I’m sad or depress. I prefer keeping it all to myself and act like everything is okay. I put others first than me, I think that is something good because it doesn’t make me a selfish person. Another positive trait that I will always be thankful to my parents is showing me good manners and to…

After completing the StregthsQuest survey, I learned that my five greatest strengths are Harmony, Competition, Achiever, Includer, and Communication. Some of these strengths I had previously recognized as a strength, but a few were a surprise to me. Growing up, I was always a competitive person. I enjoyed the thrill of winning, whether it be in a team effort or individual effort. Also, I have always wanted to achieve great things in both my personal and professional life. I believe that I have always been great at communicating with others and love to include others in everything that I do to achieve a goal. The biggest strength of mine that surprised me most was Harmony. However, after reading about each strength, I know how I have utilized…

Everybody goes through something that is tough in life. For instance, some may have trials and tribulations in school, work, or even at home. For that reason, people find many ways to overcome their problems. Some people could just talk to someone about what they are going through, and they could immediately overcome their complications. This explanation leads to the following question: What is the greatest obstacle to achieving my number one goal? My number one goal is to graduate out of college with a degree to start my career in practical nursing. When I first started college in 2011, I was thinking that college was going to be difficult. During that time, I was taking an Anatomy and Physiology class, and I had too many roads to failing…

Growing up with divorced parents from two radically different cultures was at first difficult. My mother’s family was from Peru, while my father’s was from Bangladesh. In my young mind, there was an internal struggle with what my identity actually consisted of. I wasn’t wholly from one culture or the other, and felt like a black sheep when interacting with either side of my family. Due to this, I attempted to keep these cultures partitioned. At the time, they were different portions of my life that simply couldn’t intermix. This mentality in turn led me to foolishly shy away from my joint heritage. I kept myself enclosed in a box, blind to the beauty of my surrounding culture. However, as time progressed, I knew I had to make a change in my understanding.…

Honesty, authenticity, genuineness, bravery, and valor are my top strengths. I was shocked by these results not only because I feel they are extremely accurate, but these are the things I value most in life, especially honesty, I feel that you can hate a man to the core, but if that man is a truly honest man you can only respect him. I want to be an epitome of a truly honest man, and I believe my character strengths will help me achieve this goal. My bottom strengths were the love of learning, self-control, and regulation. Therefore, I decide that I had to work twice or three times as much as other kids in my grade just to earn a decent grade. My failures taught me that sometimes we have to give up friend, family, and my spare times to work on homework and study extra for all of my class.I came home everyday to look at my notes and study with my sister for hours until I was sure I knew what I was doing. I learned that having a disability doesn’t make me any less smarter than other people. Soon after, I learned how to speak, write and read English. because of all of the effort I put into learning soon after, I was mastering all of my class. Getting Student of the Month three times in a row, most outstanding student, as well as most improved student. I liked earning all of this awards because it told me that my hard work did pay off.
