Personal Narrative: My Grandma By Lucille Knutson-Bosen
My grandma, Lucille Knutson-Bosen, changed my life in three ways. She taught me to be kind to everyone, to show my strength, and to cherish the people I have in my life.

I have never seen a person who isn’t famous have so many people look up to them. My grandma loved making people feel welcome; she was the kind of grandma people wished to have.

My grandma taught me to be strong but more specifically how to be strong mentally. In the seventies my grandma was diagnosed with Stage Four Melanoma skin cancer. Although this was a very hard time for her, she never once stopped smiling. She loved singing songs, especially “You are my Sunshine” by Johnny Cash. We would belt the song until we lost our voices. She showed me that even when I’m going

Per Reporter: “Marshall lives with his Unknown Grandmother. Marshall is intellectually disabled. On today, while out seeing my client Marshall, his grandmother became upset because after having a discussion about who should be the overseer of Marshall’s disability check. I stated to her that if she really wants to care for Marshall, it shouldn’t matter whose overseer of his check. Without warning, she suddenly jumped into her car and started backing up with force and an aggressive look on her face. I told Marshall to move to the side and I jumped in my car, backed up and left. I had to drive at high speeds to get away from her because she was chasing me in her car. I later called Marshall to check on him, he admitted that he felt as though…

If I had to choose anyone in the world to join me in a tutorial, I’d choose my Great-Aunt Karen Froming. Besides being a neuropsychologist - a career which I’m extremely interested in pursuing - she works in African countries such as Rwanda in order to help bring better mental health services to those who don’t have access to it. She also gave a neuropsychological assessment of Ted Kaczynski, the “Unabomber” as a part of his defense team. I’m doing my senior thesis on what motivates people, specifically serial killers, to kill people, and I’d love to research this topic throughout my college career. My Great-Aunt Karen’s knowledge on this subject and all things neuropsychological would be invaluable to me.…

Other personal experiences include two of my siblings, both served in Iraq, who were exposed to enemy gunfire while serving. I lost my grandmother eight years ago, who was my rock in every possible way. My grandmother was diagnosed with Leukemia, which she kept from everyone in my family until two months before her death. I believe family stress developed due to her sudden death. Aside from family stress, I personally struggled with my grandmother’s death, who reflected as a woman with great strength and lots of wisdom; who also taught me values, honesty, and community. Further, five years later, in the year 2009, I lost another family member to gunshot violence, who was shot in the head and died instantly; this family member was also…

As people continue to age, they will eventually become “elderly” and enter into the later adulthood stage of life. Elderly people have more time to reflect upon their lives and that’s perhaps why they enter into Erickson’s socioemotional ego integrity versus despair stage. Basically, what defines this stage is that old people will either be within ego integrity and have a positive or accepting nature of their life, including mistakes or they will despair and have a negative outlook on their life full of regrets and should haves that can’t be changed (Arnett, 2012). What this means is that most elderly people will be socioemotionally content or fuel potential anguish which can influence their outlook of life as a whole. Arnett goes on to say that “The physical and cognitive problems that become more common in the course of late adulthood…

Have you ever had someone to help guide you when you didn’t know what to do? For me, my grandmother, Sheila, is that person. Sheila is extremely beautiful, she’s heavyset and she has curly, black and grey hair. There hasn’t been one time when I was in need, and she wasn’t there for me. My grandmother have always lived pretty close to where I live. All my life, my grandmother has been the nicest person. Even though she was the nicest person she could also be the meanest at times. My grandmother would get mad when things didn’t go her way or when someone didn’t do something how she wanted. Even though she would have her attitudes she would never get mad at me. She always made me feel special, as if I were her favorite. My grandmother is my mentor in life and she is greatly appreciated.…

From starting with hardly any education and building twice the life that most people dream of is something remarkable itself. Then, to live her daily life focused on the bright side and not once dwelling with any negative, this woman was utterly amazing. I will aspire to be but half of who she was and what she made of herself. I am very fortunate to have known someone so God-like and down to earth to know what kind of person I would like to see myself as when I grow up. Not to mention, the amazing meals that she had prepared for a countless amount of people. I truly respect my great aunt Norma Dell and everything she had taught me in her wonderful times here on…

Growing up in my great grandma’s generation was completely different than growing up in my generation. Back in the day there were not supercenter grocery stores like Wal-Mart, Shop n Save or Sam’s Club for you to go buy your meals. Everything you ate was made from scratch. Why do you think grandmas always the best cooks? Going to grocery stores and restaurants is typically easier and cheaper but cooking homemade meals with your great grandma is priceless.…

She taught me that even though when sometimes everything is going wrong, that you need to keep your head up and keep moving forward. She lost her parents, but stayed strong. She was caught two times by the Nazis, and escaped with her family’s help. She was caught a last time, and this time, she was bound to die. While in the tunnel, she could hear the screams of the Jews getting tortured, but managed to persevere and make it out alive. I believe that is important to not give up, as well as keep moving forward even when times get rough. Nothing lasts forever, and that applies to harsh feelings as well. Everyone should remember that if you put bad things in the past, it’ll be forgotten…
