Personal Narrative: My Field Trip To High School
When I was seven years old, I went on a field trip to the Jim Cherry Memorial planetarium in Atlanta, Georgia. The theme that day was travelling thru space, they enhanced the experience by making the sets moving. It was astonishing, how something so far away seems so contiguous. At that moment, I knew that I had to learn more. I went home that same day and ask my mom what all she knew about space, but she did not know very much. The following day, I started doing my research when I was capable of doing so. I remember wishing for some to tell me more. Since then, I always wonder what goes on in space while I am down here.
My curiosity followed me all the way to high school. As soon as I entered high school, I could not help but remember thinking “Astronomy was the first class I was going to take.” that was not the case. My school did not even offer Spanish let alone Astronomy. I was so angry that they did not offer astronomy that I just stop caring about school altogether. My attitude toward school got so bad that I failed ninth grade math. My academic advisor informed me that I had to pass math if I ever want to become an astronomer. She told me “Astronomers deals with a lot of math” at that moment I knew that I had to make math a priority.

Cornell is more than its name and credibility, which is why it is appealing to me; it is the reason I would like to attend there. Cornell offers not only a significant and rigorous education but an incredible college experience. With its diverse group of students, I can remove myself from my comfort zone and learn in ways I never have before.
