Personal Narrative: My Experience With The American Arms Hotel
The quarters still weren’t ready when we arrived so we spent a week in the American Arms Hotel. We had two rooms, and there were plenty of stores and restaurants in the area. And the Army was paying for most of the meals, so the transition was tolerable. The kids liked it, but it was small, and I was grateful it was only a week. We received the call our quarters were available for inspection. We were lucky to receive a four bedroom apartment on the first floor. There was a basement for storage and laundry, so even the first floor was close to being equivalent to the second floor. I was a senior Major, so I was eligible to get on the waiting list for a duplex. They were lovely houses, and we hoped we would get one. We got our DoD driver’s licenses, arranged for quartermaster furniture and standard utilities including a phone. It was terribly expensive to use the phone; even local calls cost significant money, and overseas calls were about $6 a minute, which is the equivalent of over $17 in 2015 dollars. That limited our calls to the parents severely, but, fortunately, both Mom and Blanche visited. The apartments had balconies, and ours was nicely …show more content…
The headquarters was the first building on the left, and the enlisted barracks was the next. We began inspecting our assigned aviation battalions, spread throughout North Germany East of Frankfort. They were in better shape than those we had to turn around at Fort Bragg, so life was rather benign. We would have to prepare for a planned major exercise in Hildesheim in a year and a half, but that was too far out to be on our radar. I decided to continue my master’s degree, one course at a time, and I played indoor tennis and racquetball a couple times a week. Every weekend I played golf at Rheinblick Golf Course- rain or shine. We experienced the spectacular food and wine a couple times a week with friends. What a great

It was just a boring day in my hometown, a traditional, weak entrance a lot of narrative stories use to try to get the attention of the readers. This story, however, isn’t one of those traditional stories; this one involves a day that had been exciting up to that point already. The memory that resonates daily throughout my mind would have to be the time when I went to Six Flags for the first time in my life. Before I jump into my story, I should tell you my friends mess with each other a lot, almost to the point where we get into fights with each other.…

I walked into the doors of Statehouse Expo Center, my feet walking with the sound of my bag rolling over the little cracks on the light floor tile, my white uniform as crisp as a fall breeze. With every step further, I could see more people. Lots more people. The mats filled with people. People who spend their whole lives working to be where they are, on those mats. Sparring, combat, weapons and forms. XMA in one corner, Black Belts in another corner, everyone else in a corner and staging in a corner. All surrounded by a Sr. Master or the occasional Master. When we get to a tournament, our team always meets up. Then all the kids go explore. We found our team and all the kids put away their IPads and Kindle Fires.…

The night of April, 18, 1775 I was abruptly woken up by some random man running through Boston yelling “The British are coming, the British are coming!” I was not very happy of getting less than a hour of sleep. This weird man came through around 10:30 PM and woke everyone in the town from there sleep. At first when I heard him say that phase I did not know what he meant by it. I then gathered with my neighbors outside and was told if I wanted to fight the British I had to sign my name on the books in the city hall later that evening. When I went to that meeting later that night they told me to go home get a pound of bread a flask of water and my gun, and to also get a little rest and when the drums sound go stand on the green. So I went home and rested a little and then said my goodbyes to little Johnny and Benjamin. Until we all heard the drums. I then went with my…

I was a tall skyscraper that was known to the world as World Peace Through Trade. In 1946, the New York Legislature came up with a group called The World Trade Corporation and they developed The World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. In 1958, the World Trade Center Corporations hired three guys named Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill to come up with a design for me. A year later the designs were released to the public. By the time they actually started constructing me it was August of 1968. It only took a few years for them to build me and it was December 23, 1970 when I was finally done being built. I was 1,368 feet tall, making me the world’s tallest building at the time. So many people worked their that the i had my own zip code Many companies came in and used me for space to have offices. Some businesses moved in even before I was done being built to claim their spots. Many workers would bring their children and leave them in the daycare that i had. Not only was I an office building but I had a restaurant on the 107th floor. It was called The Windows of the World. Along with a restaurant I also had a subway that had a stop underground for all the people who either worked in my tower or nearby. There were so many activities you could do besides just working. I had an observation deck for tourists to come and see the…

The clock above my head ticks slowly, the sound ever increasing as the minutes pass by; tick, tick, tick. I normally do not notice the time while I work, usually I am the energizer bunny of workers, in early, out late, always working or willing to, but that day was different; I had a date; a first date to be exact. Finally the time has come for me to go home; I step out into the warm Vegas air, I can smell the familiar scents of fall slowly encroaching on the city. September in Vegas is typically warm, with the average daily temperatures in the upper nineties. I lite a cigarette and walk through the parking garage to my car. My mind was racing; what will he be like, will he be funny, boring; I even allow my thoughts to drift to what he would look like naked.…

It was one day after school and I was strolling towards the apartment building where I live. Once I opened the front door, I noticed some construction workers inside the building by the elevator. As I walked inside, the portion of the building the workers were examining, was the inside of the elevator. They were examining the floor very cautiously, looking at the floor and taking notes. I just walked past them, it probably wasn’t important anyway.…
