Personal Narrative: My Current Role As An Administrative Assistant
As a seasoned administrative professional, I have an extensive employment history supporting and taking direction from multiple managers in a department. Furthermore, in my current role as an administrative assistant in a Parks and Public Works Department, not only do I support and take direction from my department but Town-wide as well. Therefore, due to my organizational skills which encompass, adaptability, efficiency, and flexibility, I can manage multiple projects at once with success.
For example, the steps I use to prioritize projects assigned to me by multiple managers are 1) establish priorities and deadlines, 2) focus on time-management through effective scheduling, and maintain open communication with each manager about the progress

Sounds pretty similar to the agency I work for but it sounds like you had a lot more training then we did. Oddly, I was never asked or told to shadow anyone however, I did have a few nurses shadow me. I asked these nurses about it and they told me they weren’t getting paid for their time and I thought that was a little bizarre. I’m guessing that many agencies do not pay people for training after hearing your experience was similar to…

On the 30th day of September, in the year 1992, I was surgically removed from my mother and declared female. My mother gave me the first name Samantha, after her favorite vindictive soap opera character, Samantha Brady, from The Days of our Lives. Little did I know at that moment I was going to be sentenced to live with seven other siblings before I even turned 20. The worst part is estrogen flows through five of them. My mother is a Forensic Scientist and my father is a Physician’s Assistant in the U.S. Army. They make me very proud to be a part of a family that serves to keep this country free. I have lived in Germany, Texas, Missouri,…

This week reminded me how amazing and important my job is. Friday was a busy day at the office; I was rushing to finish my work so I could leave on time. As I was about to leave I received a phone call from a hiring manager (Mark) with NOAA. Mark had questions about the interview process and was calling to speak to one of my colleagues. Unfortunately, my colleague was on vacation and wouldn’t be back for another week. I looked at the clock and realized it was time to go but I could hear the frustration in Mark’s voice. Instead of leaving, I spent almost an hour listening to Mark’s concerns, answering his questions, and I explained how the federal hiring process works. At the end of our conversation, Mark thanked me for my time and he told me…
